WHEELING — Landon Prager tossed his second no-hitter of his young career on Monday as Wheeling Central steam rolled Valley 26-0 at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex in the opening round of the Class A Section One Tournament.
In five innings, the sophomore struck out 10 and walked four to set up a battle tonight against visiting Madonna at 5:30 p.m.
“That’s his second no-hitter in two years,” Central coach Jason Rowe said. “He really stepped up (Monday). He’s been solid for us all year. He pitched against Clarksburg Notre Dame, which is seventh in the state, and beat them 12-5. He’s a nice asset to have.”
The Maroon Knights scored at will on the Lumberjacks, plating five in the second, eight in the third and 13 in the fourth with the help of 10 walks and five errors.
“Michael Toepfer is hitting the ball well and we’re playing hot right now,” Rowe said.
“Now we’re going to play a good team (tonight) in Madonna.
“They are also playing well right now.”
Eli Tucker led the Central onslaught with three singles, a double and six RBI, while Michael Toepfer garnered a double, a triple and four RBI, Ben Foster collected a single, a double and a RBI, Seth Cover tallied two hits and a RBI, Gary Hatfield recorded a double and a RBI, Caden Ondrejko supplied two hits, Drew Murray, Luke Tiu and Landon Jaquay each provided RBI knocks and Shannon Looney and Braxton Billick each added RBI walks.
