OVAC Track Qualifiers Get Suspended

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The thunderstorm that traveled throughout the Ohio Valley Tuesday made its way to Red Devil Stadium later in the afternoon, putting a halt to the OVAC track and field qualifying meet taking place.
The meet, for class 1A-3A athletes to qualify for Saturday’s VAC Cal Griffin Track Championship, will resume today at 3 p.m. in St. Clairsville.
While many events were started Tuesday, few went the whole way to completion.
Of the completed events for the girls in Class 1A/2A, Paden City won the 4×100 shuttle hurdle relay with a tome of 1:13.20.
On that team were Marie Schramm, Mady Still, Brandis Dalrymple and Hallie Mcdonald.
Caldwell (11:00.00) won the 4×800 relay, the long jump (4-6) and also took the top two spots in the shot put.
Clay-Battelle had the top-qualifier in the pole vault.
Class 3A
Magnolia claimed victory in the 4×100 shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:15.06. Running for the Blue Eagles were Kaylee Williams, Emma Spitzer, Shaela Holliday and Jenna Blain.
The 4×800 relay went to Fort Frye with a time of 10:53.79.
The Cadets also took top position in the high jump (4-8).
There was a three-way in the pole vault, with Magnolia senior Jaci Rhode matching two Fort Frye competitors at 7-0.
Boys
Class 1A/2A
In boys 1A/2A action, Shadyside’s Andrew Osman won the pole vault (13-6) and the Tigers were also the top qualifiers in the 4×800 with a team of Landen Salgat, Jacob James, Lee McKitrick and Holden Slaget running 9:02.33.
Toronto’s Josh Fancher won the discus with a throw of 163-08, over 30 feet further than second place.
Paden City’s team of Jasup Spragg, Julian Landauer, Logan Smith and Shane Anderson won the 4×110 shuttle hurdle relay (1:03.33).
Triston Bates from Valley was the top-qualifier in the long jump with a leap of 19-10.75.
Class 3A
Martins Ferry’s Carter Bennett won the pole vault (10-0) and Purple Riders also had the top time in the 4×800 relay at 8:49.05 with a team of Trent Lewis, Ryan Theaker, Dominick Shrodes and Francis Toohey.
Bellaire won the shuttles (1:04.72) with a team of Mayson Sochor, Khalil Kimbro, Maurice Webb and Nico Piergallini.
Magnolia’s Austin Beverlin had the best distance in the long jump at 19-10.
The remaining events are scheduled to be completed today at Red Devil Stadium. Field events will begin at 3 p.m. while track events will start at 4 p.m.
