State Tennis Tourney Set To Begin

WHEELING — The matchups are set for the 2022 West Virginia High School State Tennis Tournament in Kanawha City and plenty of local athletes will be vying to bring a title back home.

The Wheeling Park girls’ tennis team has three players in singles action, while Oak Glen’s girls’ team has a pair of singles participants and a total of six doubles qualifiers.

Here is a look at all local players who will represent their schools.

Wheeling Park Girls

Taylor Broadwater will compete in the No. 1 Singles event against Spring Mills’ Kiran Cole.

Towne Moores qualified in the No. 2 Singles and she will take on Jefferson’s Sonora Smith. Moores will also team up with Broadwater in the No. 1 Doubles tournament.

Taylor Andrews will take on Mila Catrow of Washington in the first round of the No. 3 Singles event.

Oak Glen Girls

Kittawana McKinley earned the top seed in the No. 3 Singles bracket and she will take on Lincoln’s Raelyn Vance in the opening round.

Gabi Pasco earned a spot in the No. 4 Singles tournament and will battle against Williamstown’s Audrey Fenton. Pasco and McKinley will take part in the No. 2 Doubles event as the top seed, as well.

Seniors Katie Zoellers and Lyndsay Reynolds will be teammates in the No. 1 Doubles bracket where they earned the top overall seed.

Maeghan Fisher and freshman Tia Vick will compete in the No. 3 Doubles tournament.

Wheeling Central Girls

Danielle Agcaoili secured the No. 1 seed in the Class A-AA No. 1 Singles field and she will take on Jadelyn Hinger of Moorefield.

Wheeling Park Boys

Braeden Keen will take the court for No. 1 Singles action as he starts his state tournament journey against Jefferson’s Cole Gore.

Brooke Boys

Nick Pollock punched his spot to state and will take part in the No. 1 Singles bracket where he will face off against Sujay Prasath of Washington.

Weir Boys

Weir’s Justin Velegol also joins the No. 1 Singles bracket with a first-round matchup against Wood County Christian’s Elijah Kuhl.
