Amaismeier, Nemeth, Shriver Captain 54th Annual All-Valley Baseball Team

Matt Amaismeier

Matt Amaismeier, Madonna

Infielder, Captain

Amaismeier amazed this year for the Blue Dons and was a big reason why they were one win away from reaching the state tournament. Amaismeier garnered a batting average of .505 with 51 hits, 40 RBI, 13 doubles and four home runs. He could run and pitch, too, as he tallied 15 stolen bases on the basepaths and a 2.55 ERA with 76 strikeouts in 58 innings on the mound. Amaismeier also delivered four complete games for coach Jeff Baire’s squad.

Treston Nemeth

Treston Nemeth, Harrison Central

Catcher, Captain

Nemeth finds himself as a captain of the All-Valley team for the second consecutive year and deservedly so after the stellar season he delivered. The Huskies’ catcher was always coming up big as he batted .538 with a .938 slugging percentage, five home runs, 11 doubles, three triples, 31 RBI and 36 runs scored, while swiping 15 bases in the process. Behind the dish he was just as valuable as he called every pitch for Harrison Central’s pitching staff.

Colby Shriver

Colby Shriver, Martins Ferry

Pitcher, Captain

There was a 50/50 chance a team would even score a run when facing Shriver this season. The Purple Riders’ ace finished his senior campaign with five shutouts in 10 starts and generated a record of 9-1 over 67 innings. He also struck out 83 hitters and turned in a remarkable 0.73 ERA to capture First Team All-Ohio honors, along with All-Eastern District, All-Buckeye 8 and All-OVAC accolades on his way to playing in the OVAC and Eastern District All-Star Games.

Bryce Amos, Shadyside

Pitcher

No-no, that wasn’t Nolan Ryan pitching for Shadyside this year but it sure felt like it. Amos tallied three no-hitters this year and only allowed four earned runs, while accumulating a 4-1 record with a 0.92 ERA and 55 strikeouts. He also played in the OVAC All-Star Game.

Tre Rex

Harrison Central, Pitcher

Rex struck out 19 batters, while throwing a no-hitter (his second no-hitter of the season) in the Huskies’ district semifinal game against Coshocton. The lefty finished his junior year with a 7-1 record, 90 strikeouts, an ERA of 0.97 and held opposing hitters to a .122 average.

Ty Walton

Tyler Consolidated

Pitcher

Walton struck out 107 batters in just 53 innings, while owning an ERA of 1.04 and a record of 8-2. Walton only allowed 16 hits and held the opposition to a batting average of .088. He also hit .365 with a home run and 18 RBI to earn first team all-state.

Mr. Reliable. Bittinger batted .435 with 37 hits, 19 RBI, seven doubles, one home run and one triple during his senior campaign. He was also strong on the mound where he owned a 2.65 ERA for coach Steve Myers and the Patriots.

Braylen Blomquist

St. Clairsville

Infielder

In just his sophomore year, Blomquist turned in a batting average of .427 with 32 hits, 15 RBI, 25 runs scored, four doubles and only four strikeouts all season long. Defensively, Blomquist was a wizard with a .936 fielding percentage in 94 chances.

The accolades continue to pour in for VanNest as he was named the OVAC 2A Baseball Player of the Year. He hit .439 with 29 hits, while stealing 24 bases. VanNest also delivered 25 runs, four doubles, three triples and a .938 fielding percentage.

Jayden Helmick

Tyler Consolidated

Outfield

Helmick’s speed and range in the outfield are as impressive as his ability to hit. This year, Helmick hit at a .413 clip with 31 hits, 26 runs, 16 RBI, four doubles, four triples and two home runs. He added 33 stolen bases for coach Rob Jones.

Ian McBane, Edison

Dom Bouscher, Toronto

Utility

Toronto has become a baseball powerhouse over the years because of players like Bouscher. He finished the season with a .405 batting average, 25 RBI, 14 doubles and three triples. He even distracted pitchers with his speed and proved it with 21 stolen bases.

Ben Foster

Whether it was at the dish or pitching, Foster was one of the best in the valley. He could hardly be touched when he toed the rubber and his 0.96 ERA and four victories proved it. At the plate, the senior raked at a .470 clip and drove in 18 runs.
