Cadets Win Tournament of Champions
WHEELING — The tournament of OVAC champions was dominated by 3A champion, Linsly, Wednesday at Oglebay Park’s Jones Course.
The Cadets fired an impressive 311, which was better than Wheeling Park (319), Wheeling Central (324) and St. Clairsville (354).
Linsly’s Matteo Pontecorvo shot an even-par round of 71, which was a stroke better than Wheeling Park’s Gavin Goodrich and Wheeling Central’s Justin Doerr, for the medalist honor.
The Patriots and Maroon Knights will now set their sights on next week’s West Virginia State Golf Tournament on this same Jones Course, starting on Tuesday. St. Clairsville, meanwhile, will take part in Monday’s Division II Eastern District Tournament at Eaglesticks in Zanesville.
Seminoles Advance to District
CAMBRIDGE — Monroe Central advanced as a team to next week’s Division III Eastern District Golf Tournament by virtue of posting a 360 to grab the fourth and final spot during Wednesday’s sectional tournament held at the Cambridge Country Club.
The Seminoles were led by Zander Potts, who continued his fine season by posting a solid score of 75, which was 3-over for the round. Potts’ round included five birdies. Potts’ score was second overall.
The balance of the scores the Seminoles played to advance were posted by Lane Demchak (94), Jake Winland (95) and Owen Weckbacher (96).
