Central Girls Battle Linsly for 1-0 Win
TRIADELPHIA — The Wheeling Central and Linsly girls soccer teams were locked in a battle at the Highland Sports Complex Thursday.
A second-half goal by Central’s Maria Ratcliffe was the only marker as the Maroon Knights went on to win 1-0.
Adriana Pompeo got the assist on Ratcliffe’s goal while Liz Romanek perserved the shutout in net.
VOLLEYBALL
Wheeling Park Downs University
WHEELING — The Patriots knotched a victory over the visiting Hawks by scores of 15-25, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-23.
Olivia Albrecht led the team with 14 kills to go along with four digs and two aces. Faith Randolph recorded 11 kills, 24 digs and three aces. Paige Jasko was credited with 10 digs and an ace.
Ferry def. Bellaire
BELLAIRE – Martins Ferry cooled off a Bellaire squad, which had won a pair of matches earlier in the week, posting a sweep by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-18.
The Purple Riders were paced by Lindsey Best’s eight kills, eight digs, three blocks and three aces. Sydney Koller had eight kills, seven digs and seven points. Hannah Meeker was charted for three digs, two kills, two blocks and 18 assists. McKenzie Carte posted five kills and two blocks, while Kaylynn Zinn had four kills.
The Big Reds were led by Gianna Schmidt’s 10 kills, three aces, two blocks and four digs. Alexis Morgan had seven digs, while Gracelyn Maupin posted eight assists, two aces and six digs.
Shadyside falls to Shenandoah
SHADYSIDE – The Tigers fell victim to the sweep at the hands of the Zeps, who have won seven straight. Shenandoah prevailed by scores of 25-15, 25-9 and 25-10.
The Tigers were led by Gentry Brown’s six kills, four digs and three blocks. Josey Greenwood had five digs. Ali Weatherson had 10 assists.
Shenandoah received 16 kills from talented junior Mya Leach.
Beaver sweeps Harrison
LISBON – The visiting Huskies lost 25-21, 25-17 and 25-18 to the homestanding Beavers.
Nadia Tweedy recorded six kills and two blocks for Harrison Central. Olivia Tonkovich added 15 assists and Maddy Butler charted 10 digs. Maddie Sedgmer scored eight points.
Cambridge sweeps St. C.
CAMBRIDGE – The homesteading Bobcats posted a victory against the Red Devils by scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 25-19.
St. Clairsville was led by Rachel Finnical’s 20 assists, seven digs and three kills. Senior Abby Salisbury had 27 digs and an ace, while classmate Katlyn Gray had seven kills, three digs, two blocks and three aces. Brooke Biancarelli posted six kills and 10 digs.
Monroe bounces back
WOODSFIELD – Monroe Central bounced back from its first loss of the season by sweeping Bridgeport by scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-8.
The Seminoles were led by Kynzi Bishop’s nine kills. Jacey English added seven kills, four digs and five aces. Abby Thompson had four kills and four blocks. Ryleigh Winland had 13 points and two aces to go along with five digs. Kyra English had 13 assists and Olivia Valkovic added 12.
GOLF
Linsly sweeps quadrangular
WHEELING – Getting a tuneup for next week’s OVAC Tournament, Linsly posted an impressive 290 at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course. They were eight shots better than Fort Frye and 30 better than St. Clairsville and 81 better than Harrison Central.
Linsly’s Jaime Romeral was the medalist, firing a 4-under, 67.
Union Local wins at BecWood
RAYLAND – The Jets fired a round of 184 on the back 9 at BecWood to defeat Monroe Central (187) and Martins Ferry (196). Bridgeport and St. John also took part.
Monroe Central’s Zander Potts was the match medalist with a round of 37.
Buckeye Local wins again
RAYLAND – Buckeye Local had all four of its scorers fire a round of 40 for a tidy 160 team score. That was 35 shots better than Edison.
The four Panthers – Aiden Polanski, Kamden Kinyo, Gavyn Romanyak and Preston Lindsay – all shared medalist.
