ROANOKE — Campbell Koegler and the Wheeling Park golf team claimed a regional championship at the Palmer Course at Stonewall Resort Monday.

The Patriots shot 231 at the WVSSAC Class AAA Region 1 championship, 12 shots better than second-place Morgantown to finish in first.

Koegler shot 1-over 73 to lead the field and claim medalist honors. He shot 39 on the front nine and followed with a blistering 34 on the back half. That included four straight birdies from holes 13 through 16.

Teammate Gavin Goodrich, who won the OVAC 5A Championship last week, finished third overall with a 5-over 76. Noah Milhoan shot 82 and Andrew Pennybaker signed for 94 to round out Park’s scorers.

By finishing as the top two teams, Wheeling Park and Morgantown both qualify for next week’s WVSSAC State Tournament held locally at Oglebay Resort.
