Prep Roundup: Linsly Drops Heart-Breaker Against Fairmont Senior

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Linsly fell short on the road Friday night, dropping a 27-24 decision to Fairmont Senior.

Atley Cowan passed for 247 yards and three touchdowns, including an 80-yarder to Luca DiLorenzo to give the Cadets (1-1) a 7-3 lead after one quarter.

However, a 14-point second quarter by the Polar Bears was too much to overcome. Cannon Dinger caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Brody Whitehair and then returned an interception 28 yards for six points to make it 17-7 at the half.

Linsly cut into the deficit in the third quarter on a 32-yard field goal by Santiago Graneros, but Fairmont Senior countered with a 27-yard three-pointer from Nate Flower, his second of the game to make it 20-10.

The Cadets kept coming as Cowan found Jy’Leik Johnson from 6 yards out. The PAT pulled them to within 20-17, but Whitehair ran 51 yards and Flower added his ninth point of the night for a 27-17 reading.

Cowan and Nate Coleman hooked up from 20 yards out and Graneros booted the extra point for the final.

Linsly hosts Youngstown Cardinal Mooney next Saturday.
