Prep Roundup: Paden City Grabs 1st Win

PARKERSBURG — Joey Baker took the opening kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown and the Paden City Wildcats grabbed their first win of the season, 61-8, over rebuilding Parkersburg Catholic.

“The guys came strong out of the gate and executed the gameplan,” Paden City coach Robert Price said via email. “Joey Baker took the opening kickoff 76 yards for a score and that really set the tone for the night.”

Baker ran for 60 yards, scored another touchdown on the ground and had an interception and two fumble recoveries on defense.

Sophomore quarterback Kayden Myers finished with three total touchdowns as he ran for 135 yards and two scores and threw for another. Freshman tailback Brayden Neff ran for 117 yards and a trio of touchdowns. Branden Rone ran for 73 yards and a score of his own.

Tyler 42, Gilmer County 14

SISTERSVILLE — The Knights improved to 3-1 with a convincing 42-14 win over Gilmer County.

Sean Winfrey led the attack with 293 rushing yards and four touchdowns. He scored on runs of 6, 34, 25 and 21 yards. Quarterback Brady Strode completed five passes for 49 yards including a 26-yard touchdown strike to Tristen Tuttle.

Valley 32, Frontier 12

MATAMORAS — Talented sophomore quarterback Gavin Derby continued his dazzling season, leading the Lumberjacks to victory over Frontier.

Derby passed for 141 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 90 more stripes and another score. He also grabbed an interception on defense.

His scoring strikes were twice caught by Dallas Preat and the third went to Sean Bates. Lane Dallison added 70 rushing yards and a touchdown of his own.

Bellaire 25, Cambridge 14

CAMBRIDGE — Bellaire went on the road and picked up its second win of the season by toppling the homesteading Bobcats by a 25-14 score.

Bellaire spotted the Bobcats a 7-0 lead, but proceeded to score the next 25.

Drew White tallied a touchdown on a 1-yard run and then the defense got into the act when Maurice Webb picked off a Cambridge pass and raced it back for a pick six.

Senior quarterback Jake Heatherington then hooked up with Logan Edgar on a 11-yard touchdown. Lucas Littel connected on the PAT. Senior Brayden Roth, who rushed for 131 yards, capped the Bellaire scoring with a 4-yard burst.

The Big Reds gained 372 yards of offense. Heatherington completed 11 of 19 passes for a touchdown.

Cameron 53, Magnolia 8

CAMERON — The Dragons stayed perfect as they rolled to a 53-8 win over visiting Magnolia.

North Marion 14, Brooke 0

WELLSBURG — The Bruins were shutout at home, falling 14-0 to North Marion.

Hundred Moves to Monday

The Hornets’ game against Hannan originally scheduled for Friday night was canceled. Hundred will instead play Richwood on Monday.
