John Marshall Defeats Park; Wheeling Central Sweeps Linsly
MOUNDSVILLE — For the second time this season, John Marshall’s volleyball team recovered from a slow start and came back to defeat rival Wheeling Park.
After dropping the first set, the Monarchs came back to win 20-25, 25-17, 25-18 and 25-23 Thursday. That mirrored the teams’ earlier meeting this season when JM came back from two sets down to reverse sweep the Patriots in Wheeling.
Kayli Derrow led JM with 15 kills and had three blocks. Nia Miller had five blocks and Sybil Willis recorded 23 digs. Sydney Hess and Danica Deem split setting duties as Hess had 15 assists and Deem charted 13.
Maroon Knights sweep Cadets
WHEELING — The Maroon Knights’ big-hitting duo of Nicole Reasbeck and Kamy Conners led Wheeling Central to a sweep of visiting Linsly by scores of 26-24, 25-18 and 25-20 Thursday.
Reasbeck racked up 17 kills with five blocks and 10 digs for Central while Conners had 14 kills with two aces and 17 digs. Alexis Hood helped out with 20 assists and 10 digs.
For Linsly, Ava Gainer charted 10 kills with 22 assists and two aces. Rumer Beazel had nine kills and Avery Adlowski finished with eight. Caitlin Lewis recorded three aces and London Podobnick had 19 assists.
Tyler goes the distance
SISTERSVILLE — It took the full five sets, but Tyler Consolidated was victorious over visiting Ravenswood by scores of 25-27, 25-20, 25-13, 19-25 and 15-7.
Versatile Braeden Wall charted 21 kills, two digs, four aces and an assist for the Silver Knights. Juls Lattea had 13 kills with four digs, four blocks and four aces while Tanley McEldowney racked up 26 digs with four aces.
Caitlyn Northcraft dished out 47 assists to go with six kills, four digs, five blocks and an ace. Kaite Grimm had 10 kills and Hailey Sandy finished with 10 digs.
Ferry def. Harrison Central
MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders defeated Harrison Central in three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18 on Thursday in a Buckeye 8 placement game.
Ferry was led by Syndey Koller’s 15 kills and 12 digs. Lindsay Best had 19 digs and seven aces. Hannah Meeker had 11 digs, four aces and 18 assists. McKenzie Carte posted six kills and three blocks, whil Lill yMasters posted three blocks and two kills.
Harrison Central was paced by AnnMarie Corder’s nine kills. Olivia Tonkovich had 22 assists, while Maddy Butler donated 23 digs. Danica Rensi added nine points and Nadia Tweedy had two blocks.
Shadyside edges Steubenville CC
STEUBENVILLE — The Tigers picked up another victory on Thursday, edging the Crusaders in five back-and-forth sets by scores of 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 26-28 and 18-16.
Tigers senior Gentry Brown had a huge game with 34 kills, 27 digs, three blocks and two aces. Bayleigh Harman posted 28 assists, eight kills and six digs. Macy Hendershot had six kills, 11 digs and seven aces. Josey Greenwood had five digs and three blocks. Ali Weatherson posted 12 assists, three digs and two aces. Grace Klug had 10 digs.
Bridgeport sweeps Paden City
BRIDGEPORT — The Bulldogs picked up win number five on Thursday by sweeping the Wildcats by scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-18.
Leading the way for Bridgeport on the stat sheet were Kaylee Bain with 16 aces. Campbell Kropka added five aces, seven points, while Markiee McCormick had three aces. Vanessa Mullen posted 12 digs.
Beallsville sweeps Madonna
BEALLSVILLE — The Blue Devils picked up a three-set victory over Madonna by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-19.
Kaylee Hagan posted 15 kills, nine digs and two aces. Leah Trigg added 15 digs and two aces. Kinley Hughes posted 20 assists, 66 digs and four kills.
Indian Creek edges Bellaire
BELLAIRE — The Redskins rallied to force a fifth set and then captured the match by downing the Big Reds on Thursday.
Bellaire was led by Gianna Schmidt’s 11 kills, 10 aces and 20 digs. She also had four blocks. Brooklynn Zonker posted 11 kills, three aces and 10 digs. Zara Harveth posted 10 kills, three aces and nine digs. Gracelyn Maupin posted 15 assists, nine aces and 10 digs. Ava Marinacci posted 12 assists and seven digs. Lexi Morgan donated 12 digs and Sidney Rowson added 11 digs and four aces.
