Red Devils Have No Trouble With Ft. LeBoeuf
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — St. Clairsville welcomed a fairly unknown opponent Friday evening, as the Fort LeBoeuf Bison made the three-plus hour trek to Red Devil Stadium. The Red Devils were able to send the Erie Countians back home on the wrong side of a 41-12 decision while celebrating Senior Night in St. Clairsville’s final regular season home game of the campaign.
“The three-and-out to start the game by the defense was huge. We need that stop there early because they (Fort LeBoeuf) are a ball possession team, and then to go down and score really spring-boarded the night for us,” stated veteran Red Devils grid boss Brett McLean.”
When asked about his seniors, McLean was heartfelt, stating; “I really can’t be more proud of our seniors. They commit so much time and effort into being a football player, and you get such a small, little window of games. We talk to them about that all the time, where in other sports you may get 20-something games in a season. You’re only guaranteed a possible 30-40 games depending on how you look at it through four years of high school, so every one of them is tremendously special, and the seniors performed tonight. Those were the kids that made some big plays for us, and you know, that’s real exciting. The underclassmen sold out to give them a great night.”
Andrew Vera finished the night with an efficient 11 of 13 for 232 yards and three scores. “Andrew Vera had a lights-out night throwing the ball and orchestrated a lot of good things offensively for us, saw the field well, and spread the love around, and it’s just an exciting night,” McLean added.
Cole Thoburn caught six of those for 115 yards and a touchdown to go with the kickoff return for a score and an interception on defense.
St. Clairsville closes the regular season next week on the road at Cambridge.
