WHEELING — The West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission on Saturday released brackets for this year’s football playoffs, and five Northern Panhandle teams’ quests to be part of the Super Six championships at Wheeling Island Stadium remain alive:
Class AAA
– No. 9 Wheeling Park (7-3) will head to the Eastern Panhandle to face No. 8 Musselman (7-3), a team the Patriots handled 34-7 at home in October, when Musselman was ranked No. 1 in the state.
The rematch will be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Dennis Price Stadium in Inwood, W.Va.
CLASS AA
– No. 14 Weir (7-3) will hit the road to face No. 3 Roane County (10-0). That contest is slated to take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Spencer, W.Va. The Red Riders should be well-rested, coming off a Week 11 bye. They secured their spot in the postseason with a 14-7 Week 10 victory over Brooke.
CLASS A
– No. 5 Wheeling Central (8-1) will host No. 12 Man (7-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wheeling University.
The Maroon Knights also are coming off a Week 11 bye, their last action coming Oct. 28 when they went on the road and routed Berkeley Springs, 67-6.
– In the opening round’s only matchup of Northern Panhandle teams, No. 3 Cameron (10-0) will put their unbeaten mark on the line as they host No. 14 Tyler Consolidated (6-3).
That game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Dragon Stadium.
These two squads clashed in an early-season matchup at Cameron Sept. 23, with the Dragons prevailing 21-7.
