Wheeling Park Girls Win 13th Contest Of Season

WHEELING - Wheeling Park scored early and often in sprinting to leads of 21-11 after one quarter and 36-20 at the half en route to an 83-68 girls' basketball decision over Parkersburg inside the 'Palace on the Hill' on Wednesday night.

The Patriots (13-1) were ranked No. 2 in the latest W.Va. Class AAAA poll behind Spring Valley, despite receiving seven first-place votes.

Alexis Bordas knocked down seven treys on her way to a team-high 23 points. She also grabbed five rebounds. Lala Woods added 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals, while Natalie Daugherty finished with 14 points and five helpers. Merritt Delk chipped in 10 points and six caroms. Sophie Abraham had eight points and half-a-dozen rebounds and Seneca Heller charted six points, seven boards, four steals and two assists.

Wheeling Park hosts Cabell Midland, which entered the week third, on Friday night.

Monroe Central 53, Caldwell 32

WOODSFIELD — Monroe Central picked up its 12th win in 16 outings Wednesday evening, handing Caldwell a 53-32 setback.

The Seminoles were led by Hallie Bommer's 10 and Riley Bettinger's nine.

Katie Franklin paced the Redskins with 17.

Morgantown 61, John Marshall 40

MORGANTOWN - The red-hot Monarchs had their jets cooled off by the host Mohigans.

Kaitlyn Blake paced John Marshall (13-4) with a game-high 20 points. Rilee Storm and Kayli Derrow had nine each.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Barnesville 64, Bellaire 63

BARNESVILLE — The homestanding Shamrocks scored an impressive win to avenge an earlier loss by toppling the reeling Big Reds.

Barnesville was balanced in the scoring column with four players in double figures. Asa Geilinger and Duker Castello each had 14, while Braedon Willis added 13 and Casey Carpenter posted 11.

The Big Reds, who have now lost four in a row since winning their first 10, were led by senior Jakob Dowling's 17. Juniors Mac Mac Pettigrew and Mayson Sochor went for 14 and 13, respectively.

Harrison Central 68, Cameron 34

CADIZ — The Huskies used an impressive third quarter to pull away from Cameron Wednesday evening for the victory.

Harrison Central was led by junior Hayden Cassidy's 19 points. Mykel Quito added 14.

Cameron was led by Lance Hartley's 12.

BOWLING

WOODSFIELD — Barnesville's boys and Buckeye Local's girls claimed the second annual Mid Ohio Valley League Bowling championships Wednesday at the Russell Family Bowling Center.

For the Shamrocks, the win is their second consecutive in the event, while the Panthers won a team title for the first time.

BOYS

Barnesville rolled an 817 in the opening game and never looked back en route to total score of 3262, which was 880 pins better than runner-up Beallsville.

The Shamrocks produced the tournament's top four finishers, all of whom earn a spot on the All-MOVL squad. Matthew Hall won the individual championship with a total score of 613. He had the high game, which came in the second, of 256.

Colton Hall (541), Kavin Carpenter (516) and Keegan Martin (497) rounded out the top Shamrocks.

Monroe Central, which finished fifth in the team standings, had the other two All-MOVL performers in Will Travis and James Williams, who finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

GIRLS

The back-and-forth affair in the team standings wasn't decided until the 'baker games' when the Panthers rolled a 547, which held off runner-up Monroe Central and surged past Barnesville, which led after the individual games.

All told, Buckeye Local rolled a 2523, which was six pins better than the Seminoles and 30 better than the Shamrocks.

Individually, Monroe Central's Shyann Baker prevailed with a 501. She was 14 pins better than Buckeye Local's Lizzie Frank. Barnesville's Reagan Campbell finished third with a 441. Bridgeport's Emma Pittner (419), Buckeye Local's Haylee Brown (417) and Barnesville's Julie Johnson (416) rounded out the All-MOVL performers.

EL Rolls To Buckeye 8 Titles

ST. CLAIRSVILLE--The East Liverpool Potters appear to have a firm grasp on the Buckeye 8 bowling championships.

Tuesday afternoon at St. Clair Lanes, the Potters put their bowling acumen on display yet again as both the boys and girls' teams captured individual team championships.

For the Potters' boys, it was their third championship in a row after wrestling the team title away from Harrison Central back in 2021. The ladies? This is championship number two in a row after finishing third and second behind Harrison Central in both 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Girls

Addison Rudibaugh, the daughter of the EL coach Brian Rudibaugh, repeated as the individual champion on the girls' side, posting a three-game series of 654, including the individual the top game score of 237. Her 654 series was actually the best on either the boys or girls side.

Harrison Central gave a strong accounting of itself and came in second, 2982 to 2658.

The Huskies placed three bowlers on the all-conference team, including senior Erica Emhoff, who posted her best game score of the match in the second game with a 176. She came in third with a 482, five pins behind Grimes. Teammates Lauren Best and Cami Basich, both seniors, finished with 445 and 441, respectively, to round out the Top 6.

Union Local came in third with a 2382, led by junior Breanne Barbe's 434 as Barbe finished just outside the Top 6 in the seventh spot.

Boys

Senior Nate Kelly won the Buckeye 8 for a second time on the boys' side, as the Potters' senior equaled that feat two years ago as a sophomore before finishing as a runner-up in 2022.

He posted a solid 228 for his first 10 frames, but sat in second behind Beaver Local's Logan Wolfe, who charted the best game score of the afternoon with a 256.

Kelly didn't falter, however, and his next two rounds resulted in a 210 and a 192 to edge Wolfe 630-625.

A pair of Huskies reached the Top 6 as junior Chad Viers (585) and sophomore Kobie Hennis (565) were not far off the pace. St. Clairsville junior Sebastian Lewis finished fith at 559 while Martins Ferry junior Walker Romshak came in sixth with a 458, edging Union Local's Mason Porter.
