Linsly Tops Caldwell In Class 3A, Will Have Chance To Defend Title

CALDWELL -- Third-seeded Linsly will have a chance to defend its OVAC Class 3A Boys Basketball title.

Linsly, which had to win several big games over the course of the last couple of weeks to even qualify for the tournament, went on the road and picked up an impressive 72-50 victory against Caldwell.

The Cadets, who will take on Martins Ferry at noon in the title game, were led by senior Gavin Jackson's 26 points. Carter Anderson added 17 and Will Taylor posted 11.

Caldwell was once again led by All-Ohioan Bede Lori. The senior dandy pumped in a game-high 28.

Class 2A

Monroe Central 61,

Southern Local 58

WOODSFIELD -- Monroe Central has earned the right to take on River for a third time with a conference title on the line. The Seminoles advanced to the title game by virtue of a victory against Southern Local.

The Seminoles were led by sophomore Tucker Howell, who went for 20 points.

Loghan Brown scored 15 points, while Lane Demchak added 14 for the winners.

Jason Riggs led Southern with 19.

River 42, Shadyside 31

HANNIBAL — Kabel Isaly scored 15 points and Brody Lollathin added 11 as the the top-seeded Pilots (18-3) defeated the No. 4 Tigers for the third time this season.

River Thompson added eight points.

Shadyside was led by Elijah Brock with 11 and Karl Tsoras with 10.

The Tigers played most of the contest with Ben Wach who injured his ankle early on and didn't return.

Class 4A

Weir 62, Harrison Central 61

WEIRTON — For the second time this season, the Red Riders (13-7) and Huskies (11-8) played an instant classic.

And, also for the second time, Weir High came from behind to win it.

This time squaring off in the OVAC Class 4A semifinals, and entering the tourney having been two of the hottest teams in the Ohio Valley since their first meeting, a double-overtime contest in Cadiz, the game was everything a fan could want with the outcome in the balance until the final horn.

With the score knotted, Weir High senior MoMo Prentice got fouled after grabbing an offensive rebound with 2.8 second to go, and made one of two from the line for a one-point lead.

Prentice would finish with 11 points. G Cross led the way with 20, two more than Damarr Turner.

Harrison Central's Hayden Cassidy scorched the nets for a game-high 27.

Class 1A

Madonna 62, Valley 50

WEIRTON — The Blue Dons (11-7) received double-digit scoring from a trio of players in defeating the visting Lumberjacks inside the Dube Dome.

Anthony Mascio led the way with 15, one more than Luke Amaismaier and Luca Muzzi.

Gavin Derby had 16 for Valley. Patrick Higgenbotham had 14.

Buckeye Trail 42

EAST WHEELING - The Maroon Knights received 18 points from Quinton Burlenski in a 5-point win over the visiting Warriors on Coach Skip Prosser Court inside the Maroon Knights Athletic Complex.

Troy Anthony nine points and Jeremy Ratcliffe six.

Buckeye Local 72, Edison 50

RICHMOND -- Buckeye Local used a strong second quarter and never looked back en route to an OVAC consolation victory against the Wildcats.

The Panthersa were led by Ryder Kindberg-Colabelli's 19. Dayne Carter added 16 and Gavyn Romanyak posted 13.

Gage Cline led the Wildcats with 16 and Deacon Rawson added 14.

Conotton Valley 57, Bridgeport 47

BRIDGEPORT -- Conotton Valley picked up an OVAC consolation victory by fending off the Bulldogs Tuesday.

Gaige Galigher led the Rockets with 20.

Bridgeport senior Gavin Jackson led all scorers with 22 points. Jaki Threet added 12.

Beallsville 39,

Wood Co. Christian 21

BEALLSVILLE -- The Blue Devils won a low-scoring contest against Wood Co. Christian in the OVAC consolation bracket.

The Blue Devils were led by Logan Taylor's 16.

University 68, Union Local 43

MORRISTOWN -- The Hawks proved to be too much for the Jets Tuesday in an OVAC consolation game.

James Fortney-Garbart scored 17 to lead the Hawks, while Carson Ford added 16.

The Jets were led by senior D.J. Butts' 18. Beezer Porter added seven.

St. Clairsville 74, Brooke 69

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Tyson Pastor poured in a game-best 26 points and Cole Thoburn added 23 for the Red Devils (9-10). Luke Porter chipped in 17.

The Bruins (7-10) were led by Nathan Kimball with 20 points. Leighton Toepfer added 15 and Charlie Fuscardo a dozen.
