John Marshall, Martins Ferry, Oak Glen Post Softball Victories

PARKERSBURG – John Marshall continued its fine softball season with a 6-1 victory over Parkersburg South on Monday.

The Monarchs (12-1) banged out 15 hits and broke a 1-1 deadlock with five runs in the top of the fifth.

Masyn Inclan rapped three one-base hits and AC Cumberledge, Tori Finley and Kaylee White all had two singles each, with Cumberledge and White collecting an RBI each.

Martins Ferry 12, Union Local 1

MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders made it nine consecutive wins to start the season Monday by routing Union Local.

Kelsi Gillespie picked up the win in the circle with five strikeouts. She also had single.

Junior Danielle Lude had a double and RBI. Ella McFarland had a RBI. Avery Hughes had a grand slam, double and drove in six.

Oak Glen 8, Linsly 0

NEW MANCHESTER — Lizzie Kell fanned 10 batters and threw a perfect game as the Golden Bears blanked the visiting Cadets.

Olivia Munoz doubled and had four RBI, while Sydney Brown Kell and Sarah Brown also doubled.

Cambridge 19, St. Clairsville 3

CAMBRIDGE — The Bobcats picked up another win Monday by soundly defeating St. Clairsville inside City Park.

Abby Mann was impressive with her right arm and at the plate. She had nine strikeouts in the complete-game effort. She also hit a home run, double and drove in four.

St. Clairsville received a home run, triple and two RBI from Rachel Finnical, while senior Abby Salisbury had a triple, single and RBI.

Beaver Local 9, Harrison Central 6

CADIZ — Beaver Local struck for six in its last trip to the plate Monday afternoon and stunned previously unbeaten Harrison Central, 9-6.

The Huskies received a single and two RBI from Maddy Butler, while Isabell Yeager and Rylee Smith each had a RBI single.

Shenandoah 2, Barnesville 1

BARNESVILLE — Invading Shenandoah received brilliant pitching and a solo home run from junior standout Mya Leach en route to a victory over the Shamrocks.

River 12, Buckeye Local 0

CONNORVILLE – Freshman Ava Wohnhas fanned eight and didn’t walk a batter and scattered two singles as the Pilots (4-3) blanked the host Panthers (0-8).

Classmate Addison Kovach drove in three runs with a pair of singles and a triple. Rylee Knight singled and tripled, while Reese Hobbs singled twice and knocked in two. Hannah Raper added a 2-run single.

Shadyside 10, Bridgeport 2

WOLFHURST – The visiting Tigers (10-2) scored all 10 of their runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings in repeating over the Bulldogs on Irene Ehni Memorial Field.

Gentry Brown slugged a 3-run homer and Bella Honeywell added a solo shot.

Indian Creek 2, Edison 0

RICHMOND – The visiting Redskins (8-0) scored twice in the top of the fourth to remain unbeaten.

Emma Vok doubled in a run and Becky Blackburn singled and doubled.

BASEBALL

Wheeling Park 19, East Liverpool 1

WEST LIBERTY – The Patriots pounded out 16 hits – all singles – in routing the Potters for the second time in a week, this time on Kovalick Field on the campus of West Liberty University. The game was halted after four-and-a-half innings due to the 100-run mercy rule.

Tino Nardone led the attack with three base hits and two RBI. Nathan Bittinger drove in four runs with two hits, while Gian Degenova added three ribbies on two hits. Braydon Kupsky, Ryan Conrad, Grant Simons and Quinn Jamison all singled twice, with Jamison driving in a pair and Conrad and Simons one each. Nate Simon had a 2-run single.

Landon Lewis worked the first four innings for the win. He fanned two. Zac Davis struck out two in an inning of relief.

University 7, Linsly 4

MORGANTOWN – The visiting Cadets led 4-0 after an inning-and-a-half before watching the Hawks score the final seven.

Trey Prather drove in two runs for Linsly with a single and double. Jack Scouvart singled twice and Collin Paull doubled.

St. Marys 11, Paden City 1

ST. MARYS – Bill Miller struck out 12 and walked one and allowed just one hit as the Blue Devils rolled past the visiting Wildcats (9-4).

Will McGinniss singled for Paden City’s only hit.

Barnesville 4, River 3

HANNIBAL — Barnesville spoiled RIver’s home opener Monday evening, toppling the Pilots, 4-3, to complete the sweep of the season series.

Barnesville received strong pitching from Jaxon Wiley, who had four strikeouts. CJ Hannahs had a single and two RBI.

Brooke 9, Buckeye Local 3, 9 innings

CONNORVILLE — Brooke exploded for six runs in the top of the ninth and went on to post a 9-3 victory against Buckeye Local Monday afternoon.

Anthony Bachinski fueled the Bruins offense with two singles, a double and two RBI. Carson Lauttamus added a triple, single and four RBI.

Martins Ferry 9, Union Local 2

MARTINS FERRY — Martins Ferry avenged a loss from last week by cruising past Union Local Monday afternoon, 9-2.

The Purple Riders received sterling pitching from sophomore Ayden Ludolph, who fanned 12 and walked just one. He also helped himself with a single, double and RBI.

Senior Brayden Maine had two doubles, a single and drove in a run, while classmate Connor Probst had a single, double and two RBI. Turner Krol had a single, double and RBI.

Shadyside 17, Bridgeport 4

BRIDGEPORT — Shadyside jumped all over Bridgeport for six runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 17-4 victory Monday.

Caden Nippert was the winner on the mound and he had three singles. A bulk of the offense was supplied by junior Tyler Stottlemyer, who had a double, two singles and drove in five. Anthony Forgacs had a double, triple and drove in three. Ben Wach had two hits and drove in a run.

Harrison Central 15, Beaver Local 6

ROGERS — Harrison Central struck for six runs in its first two at-bats and never looked back en route to a 15-6 victory over the Beavers.

Wyatt Pierce picked up the win on the bump for the Huskies with six strikeouts.

At the plate, senior Treston Nemeth ripped a double, single and drove in two. Tucker Snyder had a single and two RBI, while Tre Rex had a double, single and drove in four. Cabot Arbaugh drove in a pair with a single.

Cambridge 3, St. Clairsville 1

CAMBRIDGE – St. Clairsville saw its eight-game winning streak snapped Monday afternoon on Don Coss Field inside Cambridge City Park.

The Red Devils ran into Jake Valentine, who was strong on the mound with five strikeouts in a complete-game five hitter.

St. Clairsville received a RBI double from Brody Saunders and a double from Mason Myers.

Indian Creek 15, Edison 8

RICHMOND – Aiden Orr homered twice and singled to drive in six runs as the Redskins routed the host Wildcats.

Sy Howell knocked in three runs with two singles and Seth Barclow drove in another with a single and double.

Williamstown 9, Madonna 7

WEIRTON – The visiting Yellow Jackets (9-2) took advantage of four costly errors by the Blue Dons (2-8) for a road win on Edwin J. Bowman Field.
