NEW MARTINSVILLE - One day after watching their OVAC Class 2A playoff hopes take a hit, Wheeling Central pounded out 21 hits in a 23-0 rout of homestanding Magnolia in high school baseball action.
The Maroon Knights (8-9) scored eight times in the top of the first and never looked back.
Landon Prager went the distance on the mound, striking out nine and not issuing a base on balls. He allowed just one single.
Cole Sutphin drove in five runs with a single, double and sacrifice fly to pace Wheeling Central. Matt Criniti singled and doubled to drive in three runs and Luke Tiu also plated three with a single. Gary Hatfield singled twice and tripled, while Seth Cover also had a trio of RBI.
John Marshall 14, Warren Local 0
GLEN DALE - Brennan Sobutka fired a 1-hitter with eight strikeouts as the Monarchs (9-13) blanked the visiting Warriors.
Daniel Montz and Adam Haynes each drove in three runs for John Marshall. Jacob Coffield plated another with a single and double.
Linsly 3, Dover 1
WHEELING - The Cadets (14-3) sewed up an OVAC Class 3A playoff spot with their win over the Tornadoes on Holloway Field.
Linsly scored twice in the home half of the third and a trio of pitchers made them stand up.
Jack Scouvart had a run-producing double and Trey Prather and Matt Scouvart knocked in runs for the Cadets.
Alex Taylor, the second Cadet to take the mound, earned the win with 4-plus innings. He struck out four and walked one. He also singled and doubled.
Paden City 3, Magnolia 2, 10 inn.
NEW MARTINSVILLE - Will McGinnis scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the 10th as the Wildcats (14-7) outlasted the Blue Eagles in the completion of a game suspended earlier in the season.
McGinnis (11) and Ashton Little (10) combined to fan 21 Magnolia batters, but they allowed one hit and issued nine walks.
McGinnis had two singles, a double and two RBI. Liam Clements singled twice.
Brady Dinardo had a run-scoring single for the Blue Eagles. Brady Kocher struck out 13 in seven innings.
Barnesville 9, Shadyside 8
SHADYSIDE -- After falling to the Tigers last week at Memorial Park, Barnesville turned the tables Wednesday at Fleming Field.
Barnesville received solid pitching from Cam Carpenter, who worked into the seventh to earn the win. He fanned five.
Junior Reese Stephen had three singles and two RBI, while Marshall Meade had two singles and a RBI. Ayden VanHorn had two doubles, a single and two RBI. Duker Castello drove in two.
Shadyside received three singles and two RBI from Cole Micker. Ryan Collins had a double, single and two RBI. Ben Wach added a single and two RBI.
Brooke 6, St. Clairsville 5
WELLSBURG -- St. Clairsville suffered its second straight setback on Wednesday when the Bruins scored the final five runs of the game over the course of the final three innings.
Junior Braylen Blomquist led the Red Devils with a double, triple, single and two RBI. Caleb Keenan had two singles and a RBI and Marcus Bush drove in a run.
The Bruins (13-5) received two hits from Carson Lauttamus and Owen Petrella. Petrella came on in relief to get the pitching win. He fanned three in his 2.2 innings of work.
Edison 6, Harrison Central 4
CADIZ — The Wildcats struck for three runs in both the second and third innings and got good pitching from Brady haught and Brayden Moses in earning a revenge victory over the Huskies.
Moses had three singles.
Tre Rex and Cabot Arbaugh had run-scoring singles for Harrison Central which will find out its OVAC Class 4A fate later today when the OVAC Playoff pairings are announced.
Toronto 3, River 2
TORONTO — Dom Bouscher knocked in Cole barcus with no outs in the bottom of the seventh as the Red Knights (13-3) nipped the Pilots (7-8) at the Knights Baseball Complex.
Toronto, like Harrison Central, will await its OVAC Class 2A playoff opponent.
