Moundsville Records First OVBL Triumph

GLEN DALE - After a rough opening weekend, Moundsville finally broke into the win column Monday night in Ohio Valley Baseball League action.

The Expos (1-2) defeated visiting Martins Ferry (0-2) by a 5-1 count on the John Marshall High School diamond. They had lost at Maynard and Barton in their first two contests.

Winning pitcher Matt Brooks went six innings with five strikeouts. Jordan Daugherty retired the side in order in the seventh.

John Santimarino doubled twice for Moundsville and Bryan Courts tripled.

Maynard 5, Barton 2

MAYNARD - Mason VanNest fanned seven in six innings and Mackenzie Koehler struck out three in the seventh as the defending champion Indians (2-0) remained unbeaten.

Hunter Westlake belted a two-run homer in the third and Tyler Ramsay slugged a solo shot leading off the second for his third roundtripper in two games.

Zac Taylor singled three times and drove in a run for the Braves (2-1).

Sunday

Barton 5, Moundsville 4

CRESCENT - The Braves scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-3 lead and then held off the Expos on Henning Field inside Pramesa Park.

Cooper Blackburn and Colin Snedeker each singled and drove in two runs, while Kobe Hill doubled.

Ben Taylor struck out seven and walked three to earn the win with a six-inning outing. Austin Bassa fanned two in his one inning of relief work.

Isaac Babiczuk singled thrice and drove in a run for Moundsville.

Wheeling 8, Martins Ferry 5

MARTINS FERRY - James Jones had a home run and Sonny Peluchette earned the win as the Pirates (1-1) topped the hosts.
