WC Boys Finish 3rd In Regional

ST. MARYS -- Wheeling Central finished third in the W.Va. Class A Region I boys track and field championships Thursday at St. Marys High School. The Maroon Knights piled up 109 points, but trailed Ritchie County (137) and Williamstown (116).
On the girls side, Williamstown ran away from the field with 218 points. Magnolia and Ritchie County tied for second with 88. Tyler Consolidated finished fourth with 63 and Wheeling Central's 42 was good enough for sixth.
BOYS
The Maroon Knights' Aidan Scott won the 800 (2:03.96), the 1600 (4:41.60) and the 3200 (10:13.04). He was the top male scorer with 30 points.
Teammate Lorenzo Ferrera claimed the 100-meter dash in 10.9 seconds and also the 200 in 22.53.
Jonathan White captured the 400-meter dash in 52 flat.
The 4×100 relay team of Cannon Goddard, Dominic Gianangeli, Riley Watkins and Ferrera finished first in 45 seconds. The 4×200 was second and included Caleb Gordon, Watkins, Gianangeli and Ferrera.
The shuttle hurdles team took third and was comprised of Watkins, Golden, White and Gianangeli.
Magnolia, which finished fifth with 70 points, saw Matt Anderson win the discus with a heave of 139-5 and Dubal Greathouse won the high jump with a leap of 6-4. Also qualifying was Landen Davis in the 1600 and 3200. The 4×800 relay team also qualified.
Valley's Triston Bates leaped 20-10 to win the long jump and placed second in the 200, while teammate Gavin Derby was second in the long jump and third in the 100.
Tyler Consolidated's Sage Landis soared 13-6 to win the pole vault. Lucas Zombotti finished third.
GIRLS
Wheeling Central's Alexa Loy won the high jump with a leap of 5-2.
Magnolia's Jenn Blain continued her outstanding spring by winning the 300 hurdles in 49.46. She also qualified in the 200 dash and 100 hurdles.
The shuttle hurdles foursome of Shaela Holliday, Kaylee Williams, Emma Spitzer and Reese Hale topped the timbers in 1:12.29 for first place. The 4×200 relay team also qualified.
Leah Hartline qualified in the high jump.
Tyler Consolidated's Kathryn Grimm is going in the 100 and also as a member of the 4×100 relay team. The shuttle hurdles team took third.
Caitlyn Northcraft qualified in the high jump, as did Bella Garuccio.
Valley's 4×100 relay team took third.
