GLEN DALE - A large delegation of Class AAA athletes qualified for the W.Va. State Track and Field meet during Wednesday's Region I meet at sun-splashed Monarch Field.
In the boys division, Morgantown nipped Wheeling Park, 134-133, for the team title.
The Patriots have 13 individuals and three relay teams which will take part at Charleston's Laidley Field on May 19-20. John Marshall qualified a pair of long jumpers.
On the girls side of things, Wheeling Park placed fourth with 69 points and will be sending five individuals and its 4×100 relay team.
BOYS
Wheeling Park sophomore Tevan Mayo won the pole vault with a leap of 10-6, while junior Mykiel tied for first in the high jump with Bridgeport's Tyler Martin. Both jumped 6-2.
Davis is also going as a member of the first-place 4×200 relay team. He was joined by Isaiah Zelaski, Will James and Christian Bryan who ran a 1:31.51.
Other qualifiers include the 4×100 of Zelaski, James, Bryan and Keohn Stephens; Zelaski in the 100; James in the 200; the 4×400 relay team of Bryan, Jonah Nizami, Eli Miller and James; the 4×800 relay team of Nizami, Ben Ashmore, Seth Franke and Miller; Ashmore in the 1600; Franke in the 1600 and 3200; Brady Amico in the 3200; Nizami in the 800; J.T. Pckl in the high jump and Adam Carman in the pole vault.
John Marshall's Ashton Collett sails through the air en route to winning the long jump with a leap of 21-8.25.
GIRLS
Wheeling Park's Sophie Abraham won the low hurdles in 16.54 seconds and is on the bubble, according to head coach Andy Fletcher, in the high hurdles.
The Patriots' Adriana Fazzini was second in the discus, while Jillian Huffman was fourth in the high jump. Ellie Reasbeck qualified in the pole vault and Kaylee Davis is headed downstate in the 200. She is also on the bubble in the 100.
The 4×100 relay team also qualified. It includes Hailey Hastings, Abraham, Reasbeck and Davis.
John Marshall qualified two relay teams and one individual.
The Monarchs shuttle hurdles foursome of Madelyn Cisar, Jocelyn Cunningham, Brielle Bumgardner and Sierra Taylor ran a 1:09.15.
The 4×200 team of Wrya Pratt, Cunningham, Maitlyn Miller and Ella Kennen and Taylor (300 hurdles) also qualified.
