Briefs: Wheeling Central Girls Roar Past Tyler Consolidated, 10-0

WHEELING — Wheeling Central made it two wins in as many starts Tuesday evening thanks to a convincing, 10-0, win against Tyler Consolidated.

The Maroon Knights received a hat trick from Isabella Brown. All told, six different players found the back of the net. Ramsay Mansuetto and Jaidyn Kowall each had a pair, while Mariah Ratcliffe, Kate Tiu and Brook Edge each posted a goal.

Assists were credited to Gianna Konkle (3), Brown (2), Ratcliffe, Faith Zende, Edge, Aniah Maltony, Sara Zende and Kowall.

In net, Bella Fitzsimmons stopped both shots she faced.

CROSS COUNTRY

CONNORVILLE - Martins Ferry's girls and Bellaire's boys won the season-opening Ohio Valley Cross Country League titles Tuesday on the Buckeye Local course.

Girls

The Purple Riders tallied 53 points to top St. Clairsville, which had 74. Barnesville was third with 89 and Edison fourth with 93. Indian Creek rounded out the top 5 at 128.

Edison's Josie Lesnansky was the first female to break the tape, doing so in 21:03.42. The Red Devils' Cassidy Horan finished second in 21:55.38. The Shamrocks' Marah Bethel finished third in 22:12.17 and Shadysidfe's Chloe Meholovitch was fourth in 22:13.63.

Taylor Tucker was the first Martins Ferry runner in 22:27.42 which was good enough fof fifth overall. Madison Oberle and Claire Eddy followed her across the finish line.

Boys

The Big Reds scored 69 points to easily outdistance Linsly, 69-95. Martins Ferry was third with 105, while Edison and Steubenville rounded out the top 5 with 116 each.

Barnesville's Connor Starr broke the tape in 17:33.95 in finishing first. He was followed by Linsly's Micah Kramer in 17:48.95. Steubenville's Joshua Schoonover was third in 18:10.91. Fourth went to Union Local's Connor Bendo in 18:16.39. Rounding out the top 5 was Bellaire's Kai Brehm in 18:17.80.

Buckeye Local Cruises

CADIZ - Buckeye Local is still perfect at 12-0 in high school golf matches after defeating Harrison Central, Toronto and Dover on Tuesday at the Cadiz Country Club.

The Panthers' Kamden Kinyo fired a 41 as they compiled a score of 172. The Huskies' Nash Roberts earned medalist honors with a 40 as they totalled 175. The Red Knights finished at 188 as Ty Suffoletta carded a 42. The Tornadoes shot 199.

BEALLSVILLE - Olivia Baker and Evan Fix both shot 39 as the Red Devils picked up three more wins at the Switzerland Country Club.

The Shamrocks' Hayden Treadway was a shot behind the co-medlists at 40. The Purple Riders' Nolan Zambori had a 49.

VOLLEYBALL

Harrison Central Bests Buckeye

The Huskies defeated the Panthers by scores of 27-29, 25-12, 25-19 and 25-16 on Tuesday evening.

Lauren Doane led the Huskies in kills with 14, Leah Grady led the team in assists with 18, while Trista Thompson led the team in digs with eight. Doane and Maddie Zeroski also each had two blocks.

Edison Tops St. Clairsville, 3-1

The Red Devils fell to the Wildcats by scores of 20-25, 26-24, 25-14 and 25-16.

Rachel Finnical paced St. Clairsville with 23 assists, 11 digs and a trio of aces. Brooke Biancarelli added 13 kills and five digs, while Ella Carpenter had six kills, nine digs and three aces.
