MARTINS FERRY - Wheeling Central crosses the Ohio River to face Martins Ferry tonight on the artificial surface at Purple Riders Stadium inside the Dave Bruney Football Complex. The Maroon Knights (3-4) defeated the Purple Riders (5-3) by a 60-22 margin last year at West Family Stadium on the campus of West Liberty University.
Head coach Mike Young's troops need a win badly to increase its standing in the W.Va. Class A ratings. Wheeling Central is currently 24th in the latest release, with the top 16 making the postseason.
Tailback Braeden McWreath is the Maroon Knights' go-to player on offense. Seth Cover is the quarterback with Isaac Martin also in the backfield.
The Purple Riders (5-3) saw their four-game winning streak halted last week in a 48-21 loss to 6-1 Weir. They are ranked sixth in Ohio's Division VI, Region 23. The top 8 will host a playoff game in week 11.
Martins Ferry has been led by quarterback Ayden Ludolph and tailback Tev'n Williams.
Barnesville at Shenandoah
SARAHSVILLE - The Shamrocks (8-0) are riding a 24-game regular-season win streak as they head to Noble County to meet the homestanding Zeps (3-5).
Barnesville is ranked atop the OVAC Class 3A standings and is also fifth in Ohio Division V, Region 19. It is one of only two unbeatens in the region, the other being Gahanna Academy.
Quarterback Casey Carpenter is yet to throw an interception compared to 21 TD tosses. Tailback Taison Starr is the top rusher while Luke Detling and Duker Castello are wide receiver options.
The Shamrocks defense has only allowed 36 points all season and has pitched four shutouts.
Shenandoah is ranked 18th in Division VI, Region 23.
Clay-Battelle vs. Cameron
CAMERON - The Cee-Bees travel Dragon Field to meet a red-hot Dragons squad that is on a five-game win streak after losing their season opener.
Cameron scored 64 points last week against Valley and has scored at least 52 in all but one of its wins.
Quarterback Colson Wichterman had run for four touchdowns in each of the last two games, while Klypsan Wallace is a load in the backfield
Clay-Battelle is 2-4 and dropped a game at Meadow Bridge last week.
Linsly at Dover
DOVER - The Cadets (3-3) will look to snap a rare two-game losing streak tonight when they visit Crater Stadium to meet the Tornadoes (4-4). Linsly has lost to Steubenville and Newark Licking Valley in back-to-back weeks.
Luca Troullos caught a pair of touchdown passes in the losing effort last week. Atley Cowan threw the first and Braden Wade the second. Neri Weiner had a TD run.
Dover has won back-to-back games against St. Francis DeSales and Boardman.
