Local Roundup: Indian Creek Bests Red Devils On Road; River Works By Shadyside

ST. CLAIRSVILLE-- Indian Creek's girls basketball team continued its strong play Monday in St. Clairsville, winning its fourth game in a row via a convincing 69-22 victory against the homestanding Red Devils.

McKenna Scott led the way with 16 points, including 10 in the first quarter as Creek raced out to a 21-6 lead early to set the tone.

Kylie Anderson backed her with 15 points and Tori Robertson added nine.

Robertson wasn't the only Redskins player with nine, however, as freshman Kaydence Walker had another solid game off the bench, scoring nine points and provided solid defensive pressure on the opposite end.

Creek also received solid efforts from Riley Sadler and Emma Westfall off the bench. Westfall scored eight Monday while Sadler added three.

Anna Kain and Kesslee Barrera each scored eight for St. C. and have been the team's two most consistent scorers. Agnew knows developing that third and fourth option will be paramount going forward.

River 58, Shadyside 22

HANNIBAL – When River High head coach Rick Isaly saw his Lady Pilots' shot chart after a 58-22 triumph over Shadyside, Monday night at the R.L. Potts gym he wasn't pleased with their season-low 31 percent accuracy.

What he had to be pleased with at the RHS wheelhouse was his squad taking advantage of 29 Lady Tiger turnovers while Kelsey Harlan and Kaylee Hagan led a dominant rebound edge for the hosts.

Harlan, a returning all-Ohio guard, led the Lady Pilots attack with an all-around effort of 12 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists. Hagan was the high scorer with 13 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Shadyside senior Maci Hendershot led coach Serge Gentile's Lady Tigers with all seven of her points in the opening round.

BOWLING

Linsly Beats Out St. John

WHEELING - The Cadets won a home match against the Irish, both the Linsly boys and girls teams coming out on top in close series.

The girls score came out to 1467-1368 in the Cadets' favor. For St. John, Nevada Lucas finished with the highest single game (146) and series (277) score. Linsly's Sarah-Catherine Jackson likewise had the highest single game (160) and series (307) score for the Cadets.

Linsly won the boys contest 1441-1427. Landon Sawchuk excelled for St. John, with a 174 single-game high and 331 series, both team-highs. Tommy Turak finished with a 167 game-high and 281 series-high to lead Linsly.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wheeling Park 52, Norwin 51

NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Patriots returned to West Virginia with a road win by the skin of their teeth Saturday, topping the Knights (9-3) to move to 9-2 on the year.

Alexis Bordas led the way with 21 points for Park, also grabbing nine rebounds. Natalie Daugherty scored 14 with eight rebounds.

The Patriots jumped ahead 35-29 at halftime thanks to a +10 differential in the second quarter, and held on late in the fourth quarter for the win.

Park shot 38.1% from the 3-point line, Daugherty making four deep balls, Bordas making three and Lala Woods making one.
