Local Roundup: Maroon Knights Get Back On Track; Dragons Picking Up Steam

Wheeling Central 82, Clarksburg Notre Dame 51

WHEELING — The Maroon Knights bounced back from their first loss in impressive fashion Friday evening by routing invading Notre Dame.

Central (9-1) was led by sophomore Eli Sancomb's 19. Seniors Eli Dean and Quinton Burlenski added 15 and 14, respectively.

Monroe Central 86, Magnolia 45

WOODSFIELD - The Seminoles sailed to 10-0 this season with a home win over the Blue Eagles, three Monroe players scoring 17 or more.

Dylan Parden led the way with 20, Tucker Howell scored 18 and Chance Allen scored 17 for Monroe Central. 11 Seminoles scored in total.

Dubale Greathouse, Kingston Christen and Hayden Pyles each scored 11 for Magnolia, a three-way tie for the team-high.

Beallsville 32, Paden City 28

PADEN CITY - The Blue Devils scrapped out a victory on the road against the Wildcats in a defensive affair.

Kayson Hoff led Beallsville with 14 points, while Jeremiah Thomas led Paden City with nine.

Bridgeport 63, Edison 49

BRIDGEPORT - The Bulldogs out-shot the Edison Wildcats, the two teams combining for 15 3-point makes, though Bridgeport ended with an edge from deep, and on the scoreboard.

The Bulldogs made eight 3-pointers, five out of the hands of Jaleel Vincent, who piled up 28 points in the win. Coen Brinker made three long balls, scoring 14 points on the night. Jaki Three scored eight.

Edison made seven 3-pointers, Bryce Rogers (14 points) and Kyle Long (11) each making three. Jackson McBane joined his teammates in double figures with 10.

Cameron 61, Valley 39

PINE GROVE - The Dragons improved to 5-1 with a road victory over the Lumberjacks, who saw their leading scorer reach the 1,000-point milestone.

Valley junior Gavin Derby scored 25 points to reach 1,000 points in his career.

For Cameron, Lance Harlety scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Cuyler McCauley scored 14 points while Colson Wichterman finished with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Beallsville 46, Paden City 18

BEALLSVILLE - The Blue Devils blew past the Wildcats on Friday night behind a big scoring night from Beallsville's usual suspect, senior Kinley Hughes.

Hughes made five 3-pointers in scoring 21 points on the night. Raegan Lucas added eight points for the Blue Devils and Megan Robinson added seven.

Kim Burch led Paden City with 10 points while Ashton Wade scored six.

St. Marys 76, Wheeling Central 53

ST MARYS — The host Blue Devils dealt the Maroon Knights their third consecutive loss Friday evening.

St. Marys produced four double-figure scorers, while Wheeling Central was led by junior Kaitlyn Blake's 22. Bella Fitzsimmons and Addie Payton each had nine.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cameron 57, Clay-Battelle 50

CAMERON - The Dragons upset the CeeBees, ranked No. 3 in the West Virginia Boys Basketball AP Poll, behind a team effort led by Lance Hartley.

Hartley scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Colton Winters scored 10, while Colson Wichterman, Mason Scott and Colin Magers each scored eight.

Colby Barr scored 18 for Clay-Battelle, followed by Braden Ponceroff with 14.
