STEUBENVILLE --Steubenville Catholic's slow start to senior night saw the Crusaders trail by as many as 17 points at 25-8 early in the second quarter.
The fact that head coach Rocky Bragg's team managed to come all the way back to knot the score at 40-40 to start the fourth quarter was impressive.
Buckeye Local's response to losing said lead was equally as impressive.
Brynn McKeever led all scorers with 27 points and came out on fire to start the fourth as Buckeye pulled away for a cherished 60-48 victory on Thursday at Catholic Central's gym in Steubenville.
When Mary Rohde received the ball in the high post and alertly dumped off the ball to Anna Arai to start the fourth, it completed the Crusaders' monumental comeback.
That came with 7:25 showing in the fourth.
Roughly two minutes later, McKeever accounted for nine of her game-high total as Buckeye raced out on a 14-0 run.
Ella Maragos led Catholic Central with 15 on five 3-pointers, backed by 12 from Rohde. Arai, the team's leading scorer, was limited to 11 and just five after the break.
McKeever and Pam Kandrach both hit for double figures, with Kandrach going for a 12-point, 12-rebound double double. Lizzie Stock finished with 10 points for the Panthers including three big buckets in the fourth quarter.
River 60, Shadyside 20
SHADYSIDE – Visiting River High (12-2) rode the hot hand of freshman Maci Isaly's 26 points in a repeat win over the Lady Tigers (3-14).
Isaly added six rebounds, while senior stalwart Kelsey Harlan added 15 points in limited duty.
Reese Hobbs led the Lady Pilots with seven rebounds and five steals.
Maci Hendershot led Shadyside with nine.
Coach Rick Isaly's Lady Pilots led 12-7, 41-10, and 60-18 at the breaks.
Monroe Central 55, Shenandoah 36.
SARAHSVILLE - The Seminoles got 20 points from Mayzie Emery and to help themselves to a road win over the Zeps.
Monroe Central also got nine points, eight rebounds and six steals from Riley Bettinger, and 12 points and six assists from Jacey English.
Shenandoah was led by Emily Moore with 17. Brylee May joined her in double figures with 11.
After trailing 12-9 at the end of the first quarter, Monroe Central took a lead they would not relinquish in the second, outscoring the Zeps 19-5 in the frame to lead 28-17 at the half.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Magnolia 57, Cameron 49
NEW MARTINSVILLE - The Dragons and Blue Eagles' top options showed up for a scoring duel Thursday, Magnolia's Hayden Pyles eventually securing the game high as his team secured a home victory.
Pyles dropped 30 in the contest, making four 3-pointers. Close behind was Cameron's Lance Hartley, who poured in 29 points for the visiting Dragons.
After a close first half that saw Magnolia hold a 24-23 lead, the Blue Eagles soared in the second half to an eight-point lead by the final buzzer.
