Local Roundup: River Pilots Fly By Magnolia; Cadets Muscle Past Dover

NEW MARTINSVILLE – Visiting River (8-2) received a game-high 27 points from Kelsey Harlan and 16 from Zoey Fox in defeating Magnolia in girls basketball action, 71-30.

Coach Rick Isaly's Lady Pilots led 13-5, 31-11 and 54-23 at the breaks as Harlan had 16 first half points to go with her seven rebounds, seven steals and five assists. Fox added nine in the second half including a pair of '3's. Frosh Maci Isaly chipped in 10 for River.

Magnolia (0-8) was led by Sienna McKeever with 13 points, while Aubrey Warder added eight.

Monroe Central 56, Shadyside 28

WOODSFIELD - The Monroe Central Seminoles came up with a home victory against Shadyside on Thursday, led by 22 points from Riley Bettinger.

Bettinger added six steals and five rebounds in the victory. Jacey English posted a well-balanced statline of eight points with seven rebounds, six assists and seven steals for the Seminoles.

Kaci Tsoras led Shadyside with a dozen points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Linsly 45, Dover 43

DOVER - The Cadets battled an Ohio Class-AAA conference opponent Thursday in the Crimson Tornadoes, who entered the game 8-1 while Linsly came in 8-0.

Four quarters later, Linsly remained undefeated in a grind-it-out affair, led by 12 points from Will Taylor.

Naseef Lubowa scored nine points while Ruben Salazar scored eight off the bench. Taylor made two 3-pointers in the contest, with Luka Kecman and Jonah Vaysbakh also knocking in 3's.

Carter Grove led Dover with 16 points, followed by Trey Ridgeway with eight.

SWIMMING

Parkersburg Sweeps Swim Meet With Central, Warren

WHEELING - The Parkersburg men and women's swim team finished first against teams from Wheeling Central and Warren on Thursday in a three-way meet.

Wheeling Central had three swimmers win individual races. Alex Mihalovich won the boys 200-yard freestyle with a 2:02.33. Mihalovich also won the 500-yard freestyle at 5:33.59.

Smilee Humpe won the girls 200-yard individual medley with a 2:40.42. Smilee also won the 100-yard backstroke at 1:11.57.

Ellie Manning came in first in the girls 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:18.12.
