Local Roundup: Van Tassell Sets Records On Senior Night; Ferry Stifles Brooke

CAMERON - Ashlynn Van Tassell broke the all-time school record for rebounding, both the boys and girls programs, reaching 1,712 rebounds in her career as Cameron trounced visiting Tyler Consolidated on the Dragon's senior night, 77-35.

Van Tassell, a Youngstown State University recruit, scored 35 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the win. Her fellow seniors had good showings as well, Kenzie Clutter scoring 14 points with five assists, Ashlee Dobbs scoring 10 points, and Emilee Dobbs adding four markers and seven assists.

Ryland Henderson led the Silver Knights in scoring with 11.

Cameron will host No. 4 Valley on Monday in the OVAC Class 1A semifinals.

Martins Ferry 68, Brooke 25

WELLSBURG - Martins Ferry kept up its momentum heading into Monday night's OVAC Class 3A girls' basketball tournament semifinal on Thursday with a rout of the host Bruins (0-14).

The top-seeded Purple Riders 13-4) ran out to a 27-10 advantage after one quarter and led 50-26 at the half in winning for the sixth straight game and ninth in their last 10 outings. The host Union Local Monday.

Lindsey Best netted a game-high 21 for Martins Ferry. Danielle Lude added 10 and Maddie Lucas had nine.

Katie Diserio led Brooke with 12 points.

Valley 56, Notre Dame 22

PINE GROVE - The Lumberjills downed the Fighting Irish on Thursday, a staunch defensive effort pairing with four double-digit scoring days in the win.

Winter Higgins led Valley with 13 points, followed by Ruthie Lemley and Harli Rush each with 12. Laken Dawson added 10 in the win.

PADEN CITY - Justin Thomas scored 18 points and Jaxon Huggins added 10 but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats fell at home.

Brooke Outrolls East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL - The Potters topped the Bruins 2,348 to 1,795 as Jayden McDole rolled a 224 game and 404 series.

Brooke's Dakota McMillan had games of 217 and 211 for a series of 428, Damion Maine had 211 game and 373 series.

John Marshall Defeats Buckeye Local

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Shelby Crow rolled 333 series with games of 174 and 159 as the Monarchs slipped past the Panthers 1m722 to 1,670 at St. Clairsville Lanes.

Ash Browning had games of 164 and 157 for a 321 series in support of Crow.

Buckeye Local was led by Olivia Takach with a 364 series, which included games of 165 and 199. Brianna Kovalski had a 164 game and Melissa Smith had a 280 series.

Brooke Falls at East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL - Kaylee Tuttle had a 190 game and 346 series and Tegan Williams finished with a 180 and 347 but the Bruins fell 1,795 to 1,683.

Addison Rudibaugh had a 240 game for the Potters.

STEUBENVILLE - What a difference a month makes.

A little more than a month after a 52-point home loss to Big Red, the Bruins (8-5) turned the tables with a 5-point victory inside the Crimson Center.

Grant Milam led Brooke with 18 points. Leyton Toepfer added 17 while Peyton Toepfer and Nate Kimball had 12 each.

Steubenville's Santino Haney dropped a game-high 31. Kyleigh Hopkins finished with 11 for Big Red (6-7).
