Local Roundup: Huskies Continue Turnaround; Barrera Buoys Red Devils

CADIZ - The Harrison Central Huskies are 10-11, having rebounded from an 0-9 start to the season, and continued their resurgence with a 58-55 victory over visiting Steubenville Catholic in girls basketball action.

Angi Ferri led the Huskies with 18 points, reaching her total by way of six 3-pointers against the Crusaders.

Danica Rensi and Maddie Sedgmer each had 11 for Harrison, while Kennedy Dunlap had 10 and Lauren Doane had eight.

Ella Maragos scored 17 for Steubenville Catholic, and Anna Arai had 15.

The Crusaders led 15-10 after the first quarter, but Harrison Central had cut the lead to one, 28-27, by halftime. The game remained close, the visitors leading 46-44 going into the fourth, but the Huskies outplayed their opponents in the fourth, winning the quarter 14-9.

Harrison Central next plays Feb. 15 at home against Minerva.

St. Clairsville 32, Brooke 21

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Kesslee Barrera scored a game-high 20 points, including 11 in the third quarter, as the Red Devils defeated the visiting Bruins on John Jenkins Court.

Rylee Schwertfeger led Brooke with seven.

Frontier 55, Valley 43

BEAVERTON - The Lumberjills fell prey to the Cougars on Monday in a late-season tilt.

Grace Knowlton did her part for the hosting Cougars, making five 3-pointers and scoring 25 points. Kelsey Dye and Anna Bowersock each scored 14.

Winter Higgins and Laken Dawson copied each other's scoring totals as well, each totaling 15 for Valley.

Valley led 10-8 after the first, but Frontier dominated in the middle quarters, outscoring the Lumberjills 38-24 in the second and third periods.

Parkersburg South Sweeps Brooke

Boys

The Wood County Patriots rolled a 2,086 to the Bruins' 1,887.

Dakota McMillian had a 189 game and a 334 series. Dawson Paugh had a 187 game and tied McMillian in series.

Girls

South had a 1,662 to Brooke's 1,430.

Tegan Williams led the Bruins with a 176 game and a 302 series.

Monroe Central Outrolls Barnesville

Boys

BARNESVILLE - The Seminoles totalled 1,968 to the Shamrocks' 1,885 at Chestnut Lanes.

Owen Weckbacher rolled a 201 game and a 393 series to lead Monroe Central. Ethan Gillespie had a 196 and 364, respectively.

Girls

The Seminoles completed the sweep by 33 pins, 1,3476 to 1,443.

Shyann Baker had a 173 game and 290 series for Monroe Central.

Taylor Crooks rolled a 149 and 272 for Barnesville. Hayley Hoffer had a 148 and 271.
