Wheeling Park Dominates On The Road vs. Huntington

No. 1-Ranked Patriots See Three In Double Figures For Sixth Straight

HUNTINGTON - Wheeling Park showed why it's the No. 1 team in Class AAAA in West Virginia High School girls basketball.

The Lady Patriots dominated from start to finish and rolled past Huntington High, 76-45, Friday at Archer-Lucas Gymnasium.

Wheeling Park (17-3) had three players in double figures.

Alexis Bordas led the way with 23 points. Natalie Daughtery and Lala Woods added 18 each.

Jada Turner netted 14 points to lead the Lady Highlanders (7-10).

Amara Jackson finished with 12.

"That's typical for them," Huntington coach Lonnie Lucas said. "It's not a matter of where they shoot, it's who makes it."

The Lady Patriots finished with 12 three-pointers.

"They're good," Lucas said. "They've been that way all year. They don't have any weak spots."

Young turned to his bench in the late stages to save the legs for his starters.

Wheeling Park plays at Spring Valley on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Huntington is home Saturday night against South Charleston. The Senior Night game tips at 6.

The Lady Patriots had two threes in the first period to lead 19-8.

They nailed five from behind the arc in the second period to lead 38-17 at the half.

Woods made three threes in the second-quarter run. Boardas and Daughtery hit one each.

Huntington struggled shooting in each quarter. Wheeling Park capitalized on a 10-0 run to move 21 ahead at 29-8 with 5:21 left in the period.

Turner and Jackson did most of the scoring for the hosts in the second half.
