WEST LIBERTY - The path to the 2024 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships will once again start inside the friendly confines of the Academic Sports & Recreation Complex (ASRC) as West Liberty University will serve as the host for the Super Region 3 tournament.
WLU will host 11 other regional opponents on Saturday, March 2, with three sessions of competition getting underway at 9 a.m. on the hilltop.
McGeary Still No. 1 At 184 Pounds
INDIANAPOLIS - In the third release of the NCAA Division II Most Dominant Wrestler award standings on Wednesday morning, West Liberty University's Ty McGeary, the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the 184 pound weight class remained second in the nation as the top-5 are unchanged for the third consecutive week and are separated by only one point.
McGeary, who is currently 26-0 this season, has posted a total of 19 bonus point victories this year with ten wins by fall, six tech falls, and three major decisions after a pin against Chigozie Ijeoma of Fairmont State last Thursday.
Only results against DII opponents will count towards the Most Dominant Wrestler standings, with the point system being calculated by adding the total number of team points awarded through those match results and dividing the number by the total amount of matches wrestled.
McGeary currently sits with an average of 5.2, while the NCAA Division II leader, Scott Joll of UNC Pembroke has an average of 5.43 and Isaiah Vance of Pitt-Johnstown is third with an average of 4.86.
Hilltopper Men Return To NABC Poll
WEST LIBERTY - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released their 13th regular season poll for NCAA Division II men's basketball, which saw West Liberty University return to the rankings at No. 20 after falling out of the poll the past two weeks. With wins against Frostburg State (90-80) and Fairmont State (85-60) last week, the Hilltoppers have now strung together a stretch of four consecutive wins.
WLU is averaging 100.4 points per game and a scoring margin of plus-21.1 in its 24 games thus far in 2023-24. The Black & Gold join No. 11 Charleston as MEC schools within the NABC poll while Concord remains receiving votes.
WLU Men In Regional Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS-- In the first release of the NCAA Division II men's basketball regional rankings on Wednesday afternoon, West Liberty was among the 10 schools under consideration in the Atlantic Region. The Hilltoppers currently own a 19-5 (13-3 MEC) record during the 2023-24 season and are second place in the MEC standings as four games remain in the regular season.
