Local Roundup: Park Wins Opener; Baker Fires No-Hitter For Paden City

PARKERSBURG - The start of the Wheeling Park Patriots' softball season lasted only five innings, the Patriots going on the road and defeating the Parkersburg Big Reds 13-2 in short order.

Sarah Seivertson drove in three with a double, while Katelyn Kozlowski, Faith Randolph, Bryn Ernest, Abbie Harmon and Gia Blacker also each drove in at least one runner. Randolph, Harmon, Reynolds and Blacker each had multi-hit days, though every Park batter secured at least one hit Wednesday.

Harmon picked up the win in the circle.

Park will play their home opener against University on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Paden City 10, Hundred 0

PADEN CITY - Joey Baker fired a no-hitter and struck out 10 as the Wildcats blanked the visiting Hornets. He also singled and drove in two runs.

Kayden Myers knocked in three runs for Paden City with a single and double. Brayden Neff singled twice and Jeremiah Thomas singled in another run.

Parkersburg 12, John Marshall 5

PARKERSBURG - Alex Wilhelm hit a 2-run homer and struck out six in three innings of work, but the Monarchs committed seven errors in their debut.

Landon Hughes singled in two runs for John Marshall.
