PREP ROUNDUP: Wheeling Park Baseball Defeats Brooke 10-4 in Home Opener
WHEELING — After splitting two road games to begin the season, Wheeling Park made its home debut Saturday with a 10-4 win over Brooke in high school baseball action on the artificial surface at Patriot Field.
Junior Ryland Robb drove in three runs with two singles and a double to lead the Patriots’ 11-hit attack.
Classmate Rocco DiGiandomenico added two RBI on a pair of singles and a double, while Nathan Bittinger and Tino Nardone each singled in runs. Sophomore Nolan Yanchak singled and tripled. Jared Marsh and Nate Simon had runs batted in.
The Bruins (0-2) were led by Braelyn Sperringer with two singles that produced a run. Ray DeFranco tripled in another and Anrthony Bachinski singled in a run. Garrett Hornick doubled in a run and Carson Lauttamus singled and doubled.
Braydon Kupsky picked up the mound win with four strikeouts and two walks in five innings of work. Trevor Rosenthal earned the six-out save.
Wheeling Central 11, Weir 0
WEIRTON — The Maroon Knights scored at least one run in the final five innings to roll by the host Red Riders to begin the Todd Cover coaching era on a positive note.
Gary Hatfield singled and doubled to produce two runs for Wheeling Central (1-0). Koi Lipinski added a single, double and RBI, while Eli Tucker singled and doubled and Seth Cover recorded a pair of ribbies. Zack Rosnick singled in a run and Hunter Mueller had a double.
Brayden Cover and Steven Brodegard teamed on a 1-hitter as Cover fanned five and Brodegard four.
Jerzee McCallister broke up the no-no with a single.
Paden City 16, Valley 0
PADEN CITY — Four Wildcats (3-0) combined on a no-hitter Saturday as they blanked the visiting Lumberjacks in four-and-a-half innings.
Brayden Neff (5Ks) worked the first two innings to pick up the win. Ashton Little (1K), Jessup Higgins (2Ks) and Joey Baker (3Ks) each tossed a hitless inning. Baker also threw a n-no at Hundred earlier in the week.
Brayden Neff singled and doubled to drive home three runs for Paden City, while Ashton Little knocked in two with a single and double. Riley Dennis had a two-run single. Higgins and Bryson Stackpole had run-scoring base hits and Kayden Myers doubled.

MARTINSBURG — The Monarchs (3-1) scored 30 runs on 29 hits in posting a doubleheader sweep of the host Cardinals.
No. 9 hitter Hayden Gaiser slugged a single, two doubles and drove in five runs in the two games. Lex Wilhelm blasted two home runs and singled to collect three runs batted in during the opener, while Tommy Clegg and Brooks Harrison had two RBI each. Winning pitcher Hayden Hughes singled and doubled.
In the nightcap, Donavan Jones had two singles and three RBI. Mason Markonich singled twice to plate a run and winning pitcher Ian Koontz singled in a run.

BERKELEY SPRINGS — Clegg threw a one-hitter as the Monarchs opened the weekend with a rout. Hew fanned nine and walked one in the five-inning stint.
Markonich singled thrice and drove in two runs. Wilhelm knocked in a run with a single and double. Koontz and Kayden Knapp each had two RBI.
