MARTINSBURG -- Every game is win-or-go-home now for Wheeling Post 1, who dropped their first game of the double-elimination American Legion West Virginia State Baseball Tournament on Thursday.
A win against Potomac Valley Post 64 kept Wheeling alive, and with the weekend in the rearview, Post 1 is not packing their bags, picking up a win over South Charleston Post 94 on Saturday and Bridgeport Post 68 on Sunday.
With their banner weekend, Wheeling Post 1 now enters into the championship against Morgantown Post 2. Morgantown, unbeaten in the tournament, will have two games to win one against Wheeling in the double-elimination format. The first game is slated for 1 p.m. Monday. Should Post 1 win, game two would take place 30 minutes after.
WHEELING POST 1 3, SOUTH CHARLESTON POST 94 2
Saturday's elimination game took extra innings to decide -- and a walk-off base hit by Quinn Jamison, who finished with two hits and two RBI.
Andrew Skadra scored the game-winning run, the corner infielder scoring twice on the day.
South Charleston took a 2-0 lead in the fourth, but Jamison and Dillon Wilson each knocked in runs in the sixth to tie the game.
Preston Cole pitched all eight innings Saturday, allowing only five hits. Cole neither walked nor struck out a batter in the complete game victory, his defense doing their part in the extended outing.
WHEELING POST 1 7, BRIDGEPORT POST 68 4
Post 1 saw Post 68 out the door Sunday, handing Bridgeport their second loss after Post 68 fell to Morgantown Post 2 on Saturday.
Wheeling jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and plated another run in the second to build a lead that Bridgeport could not come back from.
Ryan Yates and Ryland Robb split work on the mound nearly evenly, Yates pitching 3.1 innings in his start, and Robb scouring the win in 3.2 innings of relief. Yates punched out three while Robb had two strikeouts of his own. Both allowed just three hits each.
Jaxon Murray tallied two hits and two RBI for Wheeling, who had six hits on the day, and drew seven walks. Leadoff man Jared Marsh drew three.
Alex Taylor and Zade Billings also each drove runners in. Preston Cole recorded a steal Sunday.
