Wheeling Post 1, Parkersburg Post 15 Split Doubleheader

PARKERSBURG — Wheeling Post 1 and Parkersburg Post 15 split a pair of games Saturday in West Virginia American Legion Area One action.

Wheeling won the first game 6-4 but dropped the nightcap, 8-6. The two teams tied for the top seed in this week’s Area One Tournament in Wheeling and had the same amount of runs scored against each other, but Post 15 won the coin toss.

Alex Taylor’s two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth snapped a 4-all deadlock and provided the winning runs. Andrew Skadra had staked Post 1 to a 3-1 lead with a three-run homer in the first.

After Post 15 took a 4-3 lead, Quinn Jamsion’s RBI single tied the contest.

Ryland Robb earned the win with four innings of relief work. He fanned three and walked a pair. Starter Preston Cole walked three and struck out a like number.

Jaxon Murray had a double.

In the second game, Parkersburg took a 5-0 lead before Wheeling scored three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings. However, Post 15 tallied two in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth.

Skadra singled, doubled and drove in a run. Jared Marsh had two ribbies. Murray doubled once again.
