High School Roundup: Barnesville Shamrocks Set Golf Milestone With 1,000th Program Win

CAMBRIDGE - The Barnesville golf team reached a milestone Monday when it won the program's 1000th match in a 5-team match at the Cambridge Country Club.

The Shamrocks shot 177 and were followed by Caldwell (189), Cambridge (190), Warren Local (192) and Fort Frye (194).

Barnesville's Brady Gallagher led the Shamrocks with a 2-over-par 38. He was followed by Hayden Treadway and Caden Sellers who both carded a 44. Kennedy Little fired a 51.

"This milestone is a testament to the current and former players and coaches of the Barnesville High School golf program," Barnesville head coach Jerry Robinson said. "A special thanks to all who have contributed over the years to this great accomplishment."

Barnesville now has 1,003 career wins.

Earning medalist honors was Fort Frye's Chatum Courson with a 37.

Kiely Cup

BEACHWOOD - St. Clairsville duplicated its Day 1 round of 339 on Sunday to finish with a team score of 678 during the 19th annual invitation-only event at the Canterbury Country Club in suburban Cleveland.

The Red Devils' Brodi Foster fired a two-day total of 162 as he shot 78 on Monday. Evan Fix and Mavrik Malin both finished at 168 while Ethan Turner had a 182.

Archbishop Kettering Alter won the event with a 615, which was four strokes better than Upper Arlington. Defending champion Akron Hoban finished fifth at 627.

BOYS SOCCER

Monarchs Make It Two Straight

GLEN DALE - Sam Hanning-Keyser earned his first victory, stopping 10 shots, as John Marshall won its second straight with a 4-1 victory against Oak Glen.

Quinton West paced the offense for the Monarchs (3-4) with two goals and an assist. Cooper Berlin scored off a corner kick and Trent Burton iced the game late in the second half. Berlin and Bradyn Ruckman added assists.

Chase Hartung scored the lone goal for the Golden Bears.

VOLLEYBALL

Wheeling Central defeats Barnesville 24-26, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 18-16

BARNESVILLE - The Maroon Knights and Shamrocks were locked in a back-and-forth battle Monday, with Central eventually coming out on top in a full five sets.

Remy Peters had 14 kills for Wheeling Central. Helene Crall had 12 kills and Sydney Doyle had 11. Lainey Peters finished with 47 assists for the Knights, while Olivia Stephens had 21 digs.

Kaitlyn Blake finished with 24 service points including seven aces.

Wheeling Central next faces St. Clairsville on the road Wednesday. Barnesville travels to play River on Tuesday.

Caldwell defeats Shadyside 25-17, 25-15, 25-12

SHADYSIDE - The Tigers fell at home Monday to Caldwell in a sweep.

For Shadyside, Ella Mercer led the team in kills with four. Ali Weatherson led the squad in assists with six, while Aubrey Nippert led the team in digs with eight. Nippert also scored two aces.

Shadyside visits the Monroe Central Seminoles on Tuesday.

GIRLS GOLF

John Marshall 209, Brooke 211, Wheeling Central 215

WELLSBURG - Three girls golf teams took to Highland Springs on Monday, with the Monarchs narrowly finishing atop the trio with a balanced effort.

Jocelyn Blatt finished first among the John Marshall troupe, carding a 50. Alexis Thayer finished with a 51, Morgan Messner a 53, and Rhianne Rudish a 55.

Wheeling Central's Maddie Potts continued to excel in her senior season, shooting an even 40 to earn medalist honors. Brooke was paced by Ellie McDonald, who carded a 43. On the Par 36.
