BARNESVILLE - Barnesville has picked up where it left off last season as the Shamrocks extended their regular-season winning streak to 28 consecutive games with a workmanlike 50-6 blowout of visiting Bellaire on Friday.
Barnesville exploded for 22 points in less than a minute early in the third quarter to take a commanding 36-6 lead and were never challenged by the Big Reds in hiking their home win streak to 13 in a row.
Despite finishing with 50 plus-points for the second straight week, the offense took a back seat to the defense in the lop-sided victory. Bellaire was held to minus-1 yard rushing on 18 attempts as the front eight of ends Marshall Meade and Luke Taylor, tackles Blake Kirk and Gavin Morris and linebackers Camden Carpenter, Hines Ford, Logan Craker and Eli Messenger put the clamps on.
In fact, Messenger added to the point total with an interception return that capped the third-quarter outburst. Meade was credited with a quarterback sack while Trey Toliver and Taylor split another.
In the win, quarterback Casey Carpenter misfired on two of his first three attempts, but was on target for nine completions in a row, including a trio of touchdowns to tight end Bradey McIntire. Carpenter also scored on a 1-yard sneak and threw a two-point pass to McIntire.
The Shamrocks will look to add to their winning streaks Friday when Buckeye Trail (2-0) pays a visit to Shamrock Stadium. However, this might not be an easy task as the Warriors outscored Harrison Central, 44-41, on Friday at Wagner Field in Cadiz despite yielding more than 500 yards of total offense (544) to the Huskies.
Buckeye Trail ran for a trio of touchdowns and 302 yards while also passing for three scores and 96 stripes.
Brotherly Attack
