High School Roundup: Red Devils Cap 10-0 Regular Season; Wheeling Park Drops 49 On The Road

CAMBRIDGE - St. Clairsville capped its eighth perfect 10-0 in school history with a 55-8 demolition of host Cambridge Friday night at McFarland Stadium.

The Red Devils led 23-0 after one quarter, 43-0 at the half and 49-0 at the end of three quarters.

St. Clairsville ran for three touchdowns, passed for another three, returned a blocked punt for six points and recovered a fumble in the end zone for six more markers in the win.

Gavin Schoolcraft, in limited action, had four carries for 50 yards and a TD. Kale Fisher and Ian McLean also ran for scores.

Brady Schafer completed 7 of 11 passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns, one to Tyson Pastor and the other to Niko Jacob. Sam McLean connected with Kaden Clifford on a 65-yard scoring toss.

Mikey Balgo fell on a Bobcats fumble for six points and Elijah Bell blocked a punt before scooping it up for a score.

Eight different Red Devils lugged the leather while another eight caught at least one pass.

St. Clairsville, rated No. 1 in Division IV, Region 15, will await their playoff foe for next weekend at Red Devil Stadium. The opponent, game time and day will be announced Sunday by OHSAA officials.

Wheeling Park 49, Talawanda 36

OXFORD, Ohio - The Patriots (6-3) outscored the host Brave 42-14 through three quarters and held them off for the road win.

Jay Bordas passed for 257 yards and three touchdowns on 18 of 24. The sophomore found Jameson Maynard on scoring strikes of 15 and 4 yards, while also connecting with Kolin Wiley from 30. Maynard finished with seven receptions for 87 yards and charted 10 total tackles, with nine being solo stops. He also had four tackles for lost yardage and intercepted a pass.

Brennan Wack carried the ball 26 times for 271 yards and ran for three TDs on runs of 5, 45 and 5.

Owen Dobrzynski-Hines returned a kickoff 98 yards for a TD. A.J. Seals had seven PAT kicks.

The Patriots close out the regular season in two weeks when John Marshall visits Wheeling Island Stadium.

Harrison Central 34, Buckeye Local 14

CADIZ – After being locked in a close battle, Harrison Central pulled away from rival Buckeye Local to end their season on a high note.

The Huskies scored the final three touchdowns of the game after the teams were separated by just one point to close the season with a 34-14 victory over the Panthers, and in the process retain possession of the VALES Trophy for a third-straight year.

Buckeye Local held a 14-13 lead before the Huskies stormed away with the win. The Huskies, who's other win was the first game of the season to bookend tings, and the Panthers each finish with marks of 2-8.

Senior Blake Atkins rushed for 75 yards and a pair of TDs for the Huskies, while Beau Rinkes also scored twice and finished with 93 yards. Brady Hyre went 8 of 13 for 100 yards even passing, Kayne Dunkle finishing with 85 yards on four catches.

Buckeye Local got a 183-yard rushing performance from Alex McDiffitt in the loss as he scored a pair of touchdowns on 29 carries, while throwing for another 70 yards for a 253-yard night of total offense.

Koltn Roush had 86 yards in his final game for the Panthers. Andrew Jones and Hadyn Boyce each caught two passes.

Magnolia 30, Ravenswood 14

RAVENSWOOD – The Blue Eagles turned a 22-7 halftime lead here inside Spano-Taylor Stadium at Flinn Field into a victory inside against the host Red Devils.

Magnolia, which improved to 2-6 with a home game next week against Valley, received two interceptions and a fumble recovery as well as an 18-yard touchdown run from Landon Streets.

Ravenswood slipped to 0-8.

Magnolia quarterback Kingsten Christen passed for one touchdown and ran for a touchdown.

Monroe Central 52, Shadyside 0

SHADYSIDE - The Seminoles (9-1) strengthened their Division IV, Region 23 playoff hopes by dismantling the Tigers (3-7) at Fleming Field.

Tucker Howell ran for a touchdown and passed for another in a 28-point first quarter. He connected with Chance Allen from 34 and ran in from 6. A.J. Rutter had a 7-yard TD run and Cooper Howell returned a punt 71 yards for six.

Tucker Howell ran for a 29-yard score and found Allen again, this time for 10 yards.

Rutter, who led Monroe Central with 90 yards on nine totes, scored from 2 and Wyatt Cohen added a 38-yard field goal to go with seven placements.

Tucker Howell was 10-of-13 for 109 yards and two TDs.

The Seminoles, unofficially, finished No. 7 and will host Reedsville Eastern.

Despite the loss, Shadyside continues its string of consecutive playoffs. The Tigers, unofficially, are ninth in Division VII, Region 27 and would have to travel to Portsmouth to play Notre Dame, a team it beat 48-18 on Homecoming.

Frontier 7, River 6

HANNIBAL – Frontier was the beneficiary of two big turnovers by the host Pilots, Friday, spoiling River High's Senior Night with a stunning 7-6 victory at Martin Flannery Field.

The Cougars and Rivermen both finished regular season play at 4-6 in Division VII Region 27 and look to be on the road next week when the OHSAA playoffs begin.

According to the joeeitel.com website, the Pilots are likely ready to face either Miller or Steubenville Central, while Frontier should be headed to South Gallia.

River welcomed the return of senior quarterback Peyton Blue, who was injured in the season opener against Colonel Crawford. He completed 8-of 18 for 80 yards as he split duty with Lucas Dennis.

The Pilots scored on their second possession covering 67 yards in seven plays with Dennis behind center. Dennis found paydirt at 5:04 to make it 6-0.

The ensuing drive by FHS covered 15 plays and 75 yards with Cougs' senior QB True King completing four passes on the drive, including swing passes in the flat to Austyn Kephart and Avery Powell. Kephart's catch in the end zone on a King rollout capped the march.

Davyn Ferrell's PAT kick was perfect at 7:24 for the margin of victory.

The win was only Frontier's eighth in 31 meetings with the Pilots, while it stopped a 12-game win streak in the series for the Rivermen.
