1 min read

Julia Dunaway scored twice and Katelyn Smith and Brenna Tipton added goals as the Wheeling Park Lady Patriots outscored Winfield, 4-1, in a hard-fought contest Saturday at Wheeling Island Stadium.

After a scoreless first 32 minutes, Dunaway capitalized on an outstanding cross from Smith, burying the ball in the far side of the net to make the score 1-0. That was the score heading into intermission.

The score stayed 1-0 through the first 27 minutes of the second half before Tipton, on an assist from Dunaway, outraced the keeper to the ball and placed it into an empty net.

Winfield answered a little more than a minute later, as Sydne Alexander weaved through a trio of Park defenders before beating keeper Hailey Hastings to make the score 2-1. Dunaway netted her second goal on a long pass from Smith at the 75th minute to make the score 3-1. Smith added the final goal of the game a minute later on a pass from Tipton to finish the scoring.

Wheeling Park (13-4-1) wraps up its regular season next weekend with an away game in the Eastern Panhandle against Washington High School.
