High School Roundup: Monarchs Give Thomas First Win In Debut; ‘Noles Dominate vs. Shadyside

NEW MARTINSVILLE - It was a high-scoring affair at Magnolia High School on Tuesday evening, where the John Marshall Monarchs defeated the Blue Eagles 90-73 in Monarchs head coach Mike Thomas' first game at the helm.

Sophomore Landon Snyder led the Monarchs with 22, followed by freshman Preston Watkins, who scored 20. Kayden Knapp and Bryar Haught each scored 17 for John Marshall,

Hunter Bates had 18 to lead Magnolia. Kingston Christen had 17.

It was a 3-point shootout Tuesday, with John Marshall sinking eight 3's, led by four from Watkins, while Magnolia converted an even dozen, with Bates, Christen and Scott Bailey each making three.

Monroe Central 92, Shadyside 24

WOODSFIELD - The Seminoles had six players reach double figures as they routed the visiting Tigers. Logan Powell led the way with 17 points, two more than Corbin Farnsworth. Chance Allen finished with 14, while Cooper Howell and Dylan Parden had 11 each. Tucker Howell added 10.

Monroe Central took control early, leading 37-8 at the end of one quarter.

Ian Weatherson had seven points to lead Shadyside.

Steubenville Catholic 63, Bridgeport 57

BRIDGEPORT - The Crusaders' Benji Rook went for 38 points as the Crusaders outscored the Bulldogs 24-18 in the second half on Frank Baxter Court inside the John J. Havlicek Gymnasium. The game was deadlocked at 39 at the break.

Rook drained five three-point goals and was 9-of-16 from the free throw line. He had 23 points at the half and went 6-of-10 from the line in the fourth quarter.

Camden Bradley added 13 for the winners, who were 12 for 20 from the charity stripe.

Jaleel Vincent led Bridgeport with 25. He canned half-a-dozen treys. Jaki Threet chipped in 12 and Avery Jackson nine.

The Bulldogs made 12 bonus goals and just 10 conventional baskets. They shot just two free throws.

Cambridge 55, Union Local 49

MORRISTOWN - The visiting Bobcats converted just five two-point shots, but tickled the twine for 12 bonus bombs in knocking off the previously undefeated Jets (2-1) inside 'The Hangar.'

Garrett Carpenter had six of the treys and finished with 24 points.

Dre Saunders netted 20 points for Union Local. He also had nine rebounds and four assists. Billy Schumacher added a dozen markers. Brody Kerns pulled down eight boards.

Union Local shot 18 for 50 from the floor and had 18 turnovers.

Hundred 65, Beallsville 41

BEALLSVILLE - Colt Sandy led four Hornets in double figures with 15 as they rolled past the Blue Devils.

Tyler Sleeth added 14, Trey Huggins 12 and Brayden Bartrug 10.

Gabe Eing led all scorers with 15 for the Blue Devils. Dylan Saffell chipped in 10.

SWIMMING

Wheeling Park Boys, St. C. Girls Win

WHEELING - The Patriots won a quadrangular meet with 79 points inside the natatorium at Wheeling Park High School. St. Clairsville was second with 40, followed by Barnesville (39) and Union Local (7).

Wheeling Park's Malachi Smith (100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle) and St. Clairsville's Zach May (100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke) were double winners individually.

Girls

The Red Devils splashed to 80 points, which was 39 ahead of Barnesville. Wheeling Park was third with 37.

The Shamrocks' Liv McCrate was the lone double individual winner, touching the wall first in the 100 Breaststroke and 100 Freestyle.

BOWLING

Brooke Sweeps Morgantown

MORGANTOWN - The Bruins' Darion Hilton rolled games of 205 and 237 for a 442 series and Dawson had a 364 series as the boys won 2,107 to 2,076.

Girls

Kaylee Tuttle had games of 163 and 143 for a 306 series as the Bruins prevailed, 1,246 to 1,125.

Brooke Defeats Union Local

WELLSBURG - The Bruins' boys narrowly defeated the Jets 1,646 to 1,637, led by Darion Hilton's series of 408 and Seth Schroeder's 349. Nathan Barbe led Union Local with a 363 series.

Girls

It was another close game, with Brooke winning 1,137 to 1,100. Kaylee Tuttle put together games of 155 and 136 for a 291 series. Dany Eibach was the Jets' top performer with a 258 series.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Trinity Christian 42, Valley 30

MORGANTOWN — The Lumberjills fell on the road Monday against the Warriors in a low-scoring outing.

Trinity started hot and got out to a 25-13 halftime lead. Valley played their opponents even in the second half, but the first-half deficit was too much to overcome.

The Lumberjills' Laken Dawson starred Monday with 25 points, 13 rebounds and five steals.

Michaela Miller had 11 rebounds of her own for Valley.

Trinity was led by Marlo Flecker who scored 15.
