High School Roundup: Patriots Roll Past Monarchs; Monroe Central Makes It Two In A Row

WHEELING – Wheeling Park swept past John Marshall in high school bowling action Wednesday afternoon at Dirty Dog Lanes.

Boys

The Patriots’ Kaden Miller continued his solid start with games of 258 and 209 for a 467 series as they defeated the Monarchs, 2,316 to 1,205.

Teammate Sam Metzner added games of 223 and 203 for a 426 series.

Girls

Delaney Randolph rolled a 198 game and a 327 series as the Patriots slipped past the Monarchs, 1,639 to 1,602.

Shelby Crow led John Marshall with a 177 game and a 335 series.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Monroe Central 47, Shenandoah 35

WOODSFIELD – The Seminoles (3-2) cruised to a 22-10 lead at the half and were never threatened in defeating the visiting Zeps.

Mayzie Emery and Brylee McFrederick each scored 12 points for Monroe Central, while Jacey English added 10. Jadyn Miller chipped in eight.

Emily Moore had 17 for Shenandoah. Brenna Leach added 13.

English also grabbed eight rebounds, one more than McFrederick. Emery dished out five assists.

Barnesville 50, Buckeye Trail 45

BARNESVILLE – The Shamrocks held off a comeback attempt by the Warriors on Wednesday to come away with a home victory.

Barnesville led 29-18 at halftime, but Buckeye Trail doubled their score in the third quarter to take a 36-34 lead going into the final frame of play.

Barnesville regrouped and won the fourth quarter 16-9, led by six points from Lydia Welch, who scored 12 on the game, tied with Madelynn Tyson for the team-high.

Buckeye Trail was led by Anna McVicker and Ella Ashby, who each scored 13.

Barnesville next plays Shenandoah at home on Dec. 9.

Wood Co. Christian 43, Bridgeport 32

WILLIAMSTOWN – The visiting Bulldogs received 18 points from Hannah Brewer but couldn’t overcome a 16-6 scoring disadvantage in the third quarter.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jefferson County Christian 65, Beallsville 40

WEIRTON – The Royals cruised past the visiting Blue Devils by a margin of 25 in their home opener.

Mark Jenkins tallied 25 points. Lee Gump had 10 points and 14 rebounds and Wyatt Hervey had four points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

The Royals are back in action Thursday as they travel to Western Reserve.
