PREP ROUNDUP: Wheeling Central Girls Basketball Rallies Past Wyoming East With Big Fourth Quarter

CLARKSBURG -- Wheeling Central scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to rally past Wyoming East 63-61 in girls' basketball action at Robert C. Byrd High School Saturday afternoon.
Kaitlyn Blake and Seneca Heller evenly divided 10 points in the final chapter when the Maroon Knights outscored Warriors, 21-11.
Blake finished with a game-high 27 markers, with 14 coming in the first half. Heller added 13 and Addie Payton had 11.
John Marshall 67, Buckhannon-Upshur 41
MOUNDSVILLE -- The Monarchs' Rilee Storm (21) and Kaylee White (18) nearly outscored the visiting Buccaneers themselves. Nia Miller added eight and Kalyn Reese seven.
Storm also charted seven assists and had 14 rebounds.
John Marshall is now 4-1.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Wheeling Central 67, Martins Ferry 62
WHEELING -- For the second night in a row, the Maroon Knights took one of the premier teams in Eastern Ohio with its win over the Purple Riders on Coach Skip Prosser Court.
The hosts (2-0) stormed out of the gates to lead 28-12 after one quarter as Eli Sancomb netted 13 of his game-best 34 points in the opening quarter.
Martins Ferry battled back to take a 51-50 advantage after three quarters as it outscored Wheeling Central 22-13 in the third panel. Sancomb scored eight points in the fourth quarter and Max Olejasz added six of his eight.
Nico Kusic chipped in 10 points for the winners.
The Purple Riders had five players in double figures, led by Anthony Booth with 16. Gavin Little and Alex Reese had 11 each, while Eli Smith and Tev'n Williams had 10 apiece.
Wheeling Central hosts Trinity at 6:30 Tuesday night in a varsity-only contest.
Union Local 76, John Marshall 60
MOUNDSVILLE -- Billy Schumacher scored 22 points as the Jets closed a 2-1 week with a road win inside the John Marshall Fieldhouse. All of his points came in the first three quarters.
Dre Saunders added 15 points, Brandon Mehl 13 and Brody Kerns 11 off the bench.
Landon Snyder led John Marshall with 18 points. Preston Watkins and Jackson Helms each had 12.
Schumacher also grabbed nine rebounds, as did Kerns. Saunders dished out seven assists.
Bryar Haught pulled down nine boards for the Monarchs.

SHADYSIDE -- Michael Hendershot led a trio of Tigers in double figures with 15 points in their win over the visiting Panthers. Ryan Collins had 14 and Wyatt Parr a dozen.
Buckeye Local's Haden Wilhelm had a game-best 20 points. Isaac Hess had 10.
