High School Roundup: Paden City Dominates In Final Home Game; Sandy Hits 1,000 For Hundred
PADEN CITY – The Wildcats’ final home basketball game in their schools’ history was a rousing victory over the Beallsville Blue Devils, 67-41, behind Brayden Neffs’ 33 points.
Neff made three 3-pointers and 12 free throws to reach his total. He was joined in double figures by Jessup Higgins, who scored 14.
The Wildcats’ defense surrendered only 13 points in the first half to lead 22-13 at the intermission. They scored 28 points in the final quarter to run away with the game, including 13 from Neff.
Beallsville’s Gabriel Eing led them in scoring with 26.
Hundred 87, Wood County Christian 76
HUNDRED – The Hornets nest was abuzz on Tuesday night as the Hornets hosted Wood County Christian in boys basketball action and came away with a victory over the visiting Wildcats.
Junior standout Colt Sandy came into the contest needing eight points to reach 1,000 for his career. With a packed house rooting him on he didn’t disappoint as he reached the milestone midway through the second quarter. He went on to score 40 points while leading his team to the win.
Wood County came out following the halftime break down 41-33 and out scored the Hornets 24-13 to go up by three with eight minutes to play. Hundred went mostly to Sandy in the fourth and put 33 points on the board while holding the Wildcats to 19.
Hundred had four players hit double figures with junior Trey Huggins adding 16, senior Brayden Bartrug getting 14, and Jaxson Huggins netting 10.
Wood County received 29 points from Eli Christian and 26 from Asher Fenton.
Wheeling Central 96, St. Marys 36
WHEELING – The Wheeling Central Maroon Knights managed a victory over St. Marys Blue Devils at home Tuesday on Coach Skip Prosser Court to move to 18-2 on the year. Central won by a final margin of 60 points.
All 13 members of the Maroon scored on Tuesday, led by Eli Sancomb with 16, Max Olejasz with 13, Braxton Billick with 12, and Brayden Estep with 11.
Wheeling Central put through 10 3-pointers in the contest, with Estep, Billick, Tyler Dean and Luke Sancomb each making two.
Preston Lawhon led St. Marys with 13 points.
Magnolia 64, Cameron 49
CAMERON – The Blue Eagles’ Dubale Greathouse scored 22 points to help Magnolia over the Dragons for a road victory.
Greathouse scored 14 points in the second half, after the two teams went into the locker rooms tied 29-29. Magnolia won the third quarter 21-7.
Darrin Shimp and Kingston Christen joined their teammate in double figures with 12 and 11, respectively.
Cameron was led by Mason Scott’s 19 and Colin Magers’ 16.
Parkersburg 61, Wheeling Park 45
PARKERSBURG – The Big Reds defended home court on Tuesday, finishing strong for a victory over the visiting Patriots.
Parkersburg led 35-27 going into the fourth quarter, but scored 26 points in the fourth to pull away.
Nate Rodriguez scored 22 points to lead Parkersburg. Chandler Jackson scored 11.
Wheeling Park was led by 16 points from JD Williams. Josh Huffman added 12.
