Wheeling Park’s Alexis Bordas fires a 3-pointer from the wing during the visiting No. 5 Patriots’ 66-34 victory over Parkersburg South on Monday evening inside Rod Oldham Athletic Center.

PARKERSBURG – Alexis Bordas scored the first seven points of the game here Monday evening inside Rod Oldham Athletic Center for No. 5 Wheeling Park as the Duquesne signee helped the visiting Patriots to a 66-34 over Parkersburg South.

Bordas had 18 of her game-high 34 points in the first half and 14 more in the third as head coach Ryan Young’s squad finished the regular season at 14-8.

The host Patriots of head man Ed Davis, who had Lucie Cline back from injury but were without the services of Macy Singer, never recovered from the fast start by Park.

Regan Shockey, who had seven boards which only trailed the game-high 10 from Cline, scored South’s first six points. The visitors still led by seven at 13-6 when Cline had a steal and got it ahead for a Shockey deuce at the 2:22 mark..

However, Bordas added two foul shots, Dani Daugherty converted thanks to a Hailey Downer dime and it was 20-9 Park after Bordas closed the first quarter scoring with a trifecta thanks to an assist from Karringtyn Miller, who was the game’s only other double-figure scorer with 14.

Things didn’t start out well for either side in the second as the score remained the same until Magie Hupp found Bordas open for a three and a 23-9 cushion 3 minutes in.

South, which ended the regular season at 6-16 and opens regional play on Friday at Cabell Midland, trailed 25-9 after Bordas found Miller for a deuce.

The host Patriots managed to close the deficit to 10 at intermission, 25-15, thanks to a pair of deuces by Tae Richards and a putback by Emilee Owens.

Wheeling Park, which missed its final nine field goal attempts of the half, put the game away early in the third as coach Young’s club opened on a 22-0 run that was started with a Alena Dalton triple and ended by a Bordas three-point play.

Owens, who joined Richards with nine points, finally got a hoop with 2:36 left in the third, which cut the deficit to 30.

Hupp and Shockey tied for game-high assists honors with four while Bordas double-doubled thanks to her game-high 11 steals.

Parkersburg South, which lost the turnover battle 27-8, held WPHS to 38.5% (25 of 65) but managed to shoot just 36.6% (15 of 41).

K’lyn Neider chipped in seven markers for Park, which plays host on Friday to Preston in its regional opener.
