High School Roundup: Seminoles Hold On Against Cadets; Johnson Steps Up For Shamrocks
WOODSFIELD – Monroe Central held off a late rally by visiting Linsly for a 3-2 high school softball victory.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Jadyn Miller belted a homer with one out to draw the Seminoles even.
Monroe Central would score twice in the fifth when Reese Binegar singled leading off and one out later, Miller doubled to make it 2-1. Winning pitcher Karlie Haslam pushed Miller across with a sacrifice as the margin grew to 3-1.
Losing pitcher Madison Applegarth two-out solo homer in the top of the sixth to keep the Cadets alive.
Haslam retired the side in order in the seventh. She struck out seven and walked one.
Applegarth recorded six Ks and no walks. In addition to her roundtripper, she also singled twice and finished with a pair of runs batted in.
Olivia Earley singled and doubled for Monroe Central. Jauna McElroy doubled.
Barnesville 11, Shenandoah 2
SHENANDOAH – It was a prodigious night for the Shamrock’s Abby Johnson during Barnesville’s lopsided win Tuesday over the Zeps.
Johnson finished a triple shy of the cycle and collected five RBI to lead the ‘Rocks. The shortstop’s double and home run were the only extra-base hits of the evening for Barnesville. Peyton Loudin finished with three RBI for a very productive day in her own right.
Loudin also picked up the win on the mound, pitching four innings with four strikeouts. Johnson pitched three scoreless frames to close out the game, striking out three.
Shenandoah committed four errors Tuesday. Barnesville scored five runs in the seventh inning after getting out to a 6-0 lead following the second inning.
