CLARKSBURG — Two ascending fighters from Wheeling’s Bullpen Fight Club recently brought home championship belts at Hard Knocks Fight Night. The event featured a stacked amateur lineup, and Bullpen’s own Kersten McAbee and Josh Taflan headlined the amateur portion of the card in the co-main and main events.
Taflan captured the heavyweight title with a hard-fought victory over Paul Westfall (9-3, 7 KOs) of Athens, Ohio. Taflan weathered early power shots from the experienced brawler before turning up the pace in the later rounds, showcasing his conditioning, composure, and heavy hands en route to a unanimous decision victory.
In the Women’s 125 lb title bout, McAbee earned a hard-fought decision win over Jessica Miller (7-6) of Morgantown. McAbee used a steady jab and slick defensive movement to make the aggressive Miller miss throughout the fight, controlling the pace and landing the much cleaner shots to secure the unanimous decision from the judges.
Both fighters are also former Wheeling Toughman champions They were cornered and coached by Josh Baker, Ron Green Sr., and Ronell Green, who helped guide them through intense, high-level training.
Bullpen Fight Club went 2-0 on the night, continuing to build its reputation as the powerhouse gym for combat sports in the region. With locations in Wheeling and Morristown, the gym is home to a stable of disciplined and hungry athletes.
