WOODSFIELD - Karsyn Muncy drove in four runs with a pair of doubles as Monroe Central rolled past Beallsville 14-0 Thursday in high school softball action.
Karlie Haslam tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks. She also drove in a run.
Allie McFrederick singled three times to plate two runs, while Juana McElroy singl;ed twice and doubled. Kenadie Loch had a three-run double that keyed a seven-run first inning.
Marietta 5, River 3
SARDIS - Presley Kilburn singled four times and drove in a run for the Pilots while Jayda Kinney-Blair had three singles and a run batted in. Bri Wiley singled twice and tripled.
BASEBALL
John Marshall 3, Union Local 1
GLEN DALE - The Monarchs held down the Jets' offense on their way to a home win Thursday.
John Marshall's Kain Ankrom started the outing for the Monarchs, striking out six over five innings. Mason Markonich pitched the final two innings with three strikeouts and no hits allowed.
Hayden Hughes, Kayden Knapp and Jacob Cisar each tallied an RBI. Knapp and Cisar each had two hits.
Logan Hess and Brody Gregor each had hits for Union Local.
Toronto 6, Brooke 4
WELLSBURG – The Bruins had the tying run on base in the seventh, but Aiden Filby was able to shut the door and the Red Knights was able to escape Brooke County with a 6-4 victory Thursday night in the first game of the season played on Brooke's new turf field.
The victors used two pitchers in the game.
Bouscher started on the mound, and the sophomore pitched the first 5 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one. Bouscher was replaced with one out in the bottom of the fifth by Filby. Filby pitched the final 1 2/3 innings. Filby finished the game with two strikeouts and no walks.
Bouscher and Filby combined to pick off four Brooke base runners. Toronto picked off five base runners in a game two years ago against Mathews.
Brooke recorded eight hits – five of which went for extra bases.
Aiden Provenzano produced two doubles and an RBI, Gino Provenzano ended up with a single and two RBI and Parker McMahon recorded a single and an RBI. Also, Garrett Moore tallied a single and a double, Zac O'Mery contributed a triple and Andrew Murdock collected a double.

Bridgeport 17, Paden City 2
PADEN CITY - For the third time in 10 days, a Bulldogs' pitcher has thrown a no-hitter. It was Carson Sauvageot's turn Wednesday night as the freshman struck out 11 in the five-inning affair. Jaki Threet and Connor Nelson had the previous no-nos.
Threet had four hits and drove in three runs, while Danny Goff had a hit and three RBI. Gage Drummond had a hit and two runs batted in. Nelson knocked in a run with two singles.
Martins Ferry 6, Buckeye Local 3
MARTINS FERRY - The Purple Riders turned a 3-2 deficit into a 6-3 victory with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Alex Reese had a single and a pair of ribbies, while Christian Shutler singled twice and Hunter Shutler knocked in a run with a base hit.
Eli Smith earned the win in relief of Colby Kropka. They each struck out five Panthers in teaming on a three-hitter.
Jordan Kovalski singled in a run for Buckeye Local
SOFTBALL
Martins Ferry 4, Shadyside 3, 10 inn.
MARTINS FERRY - The Purple Riders pushed a run across in the bottom of the 10th to outlast the visiting Tigers.
Giana Chirpas singled and doubled to account for two RBI while winning pitcher Maddie Lucas singled in a run. Lucas also fanned eight in six innings. She didn't walk a batter.
Shadyside's Ariana Saxton struck out a dozen. She also drove in a run with a single and double. Kylie Warnock doubled twice and knocked in a run.
Monroe Central 3, River 2
WOODSFIELD - Olivia Earley singled in Brylee McFrederick with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Seminoles over the rival Pilots.
McFrederick tripled on a 2-2 pitch before Earley delivered the game-winner. McFrederick added a pair of singles, as well.
Jadyn Miller singled twice to drive in a run and McElroy singled twice to knock in another. Winning pitcher Karlie Haslam singled twice and struck out eight.
Mallorie Maddy belted a two-run homer for River with one out in the third. Ava Wohnhas fanned a dozen and walked one.
John Marshall 13, Union Local 4
GLEN DALE - Lily Dijkstra singled three times and drove in three runs while striking out seven inside the circle as the Monarchs defeated the visiting Jets.
Masyn Inclan drove in two runs with a single and triple, while Kaylee White (single, sac. fly) also driving in two runs. Nora Shock also recorded a pair of RBI.
Kylie Stidd singled twice and drove in a run for Union Local.
