Barton and Maynard Prepare for OVBL Showdown With Victories

CRESCENT — Barton and Maynard prepared for the final regular-season showdown on Monday night with victories Sunday in Ohio Valley Baseball League action.

The league-leading Braves (9-3) outlasted visiting Bethany 3-2 in nine innings on Henning Field inside Pramesa Park, while the Indians (7-5) swept a doubleheader against Colerain by scores of 9-0 and 9-3 on the Firemen’s Field diamond inside the Maynard Community Park.

Shane Smolenak’s two-out single scored Nolan Blackburn with the winning run.

Blackburn had walked before stealing second. He raced home on Smolenak’s single to left.

Hunter Hoffman led Barton’s 12-hit attack with two singles and a double. Colten Coss had an RBI single and Nate Silvus singled three times. Zach Smith had two base raps.

Cooper Blackburn picked up the win with eight strikeouts and three walks. He went the distance.

John Santamarino singled twice, homered and knocked in two runs for the Brewers.

Mackenzie Koehler tossed a three-hit shutout in the opener, He struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter.

Matt Busby singled, tripled and plated two runs while Alex Baker had two singles and an RBI. Eric Banal also singled twice.

In the nightcap, Tyler Ramsay belted a two-run homer and Joe Myers singled in a run. Lex Wilhelm had two singles.

Chris McInture, although working just one inning, picked up the victory. He had one strikeout.
