MLB ROUNDUP: Cecconi Goes Seven Strong as Guardians Shut Out the A’s, 3-0

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Slade Cecconi pitched a career-high seven innings and Emmanuel Clase escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to lead Cleveland to a 3-0 victory over the Athletics in the rubber game of their series.

Cecconi (3-3) allowed six hits and a walk in his seventh start for Cleveland after making 17 for Arizona over the previous two seasons. Clase gave up a walk and singles to Tyler Soderstrom and JJ Bleday to load the bases before finishing for his second straight save and 18th in 21 opportunities.

The Guardians grabbed a 2-0 lead against A’s starter JP Sears (5-7) in the second. Angel Martínez walked, stole second and scored on a single by Gabriel Arias. Nolan Jones doubled in Arias.

Steven Kwan singled and scored on a two-out base hit by David Fry in the fifth for the final run.

Sears allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings. He is 1-5 in his last eight starts.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Riley Greene had three hits and Wenceel Perez and Parker Meadows each homered and drove in three runs and Detroit snapped a three-game losing streak with a win against Tampa Bay at Steinbrenner Field.

MIAMI (AP) — Kyle Stowers ended a 31-game home run drought, Sandy Alcantara pitched six strong innings and Miami beat Atlanta in the rubber game of their three-game series.

TORONTO (AP) — Miguel Vargas hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning and Chicago rallied to beat Toronto. Vargas had two hits and drove in a pair as the White Sox won a series for the first time since taking two of three against Kansas City from June 6-8.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Rhys Hoskins homered, doubled and drove in two runs on as Milwaukee completed a three-game sweep of Minnesota with a victory.

DENVER (AP) — Mickey Moniak hit a three-run homer to cap a four-run fifth inning, Antonio Senzatala won his second straight start, and the major league-worst Colorado snapped a three-game skid with a victory over Arizona.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Andrew Abbott retired the final 18 batters he faced in seven commanding innings, and Cincinnati avoided a three-game sweep with a win against St. Louis.
