Former Mountaineers Okani, Mitchell To Debut For Best Virginia Squad In TBT 2025

CHARLESTON – Best Virginia, the West Virginia alumni team set to host The Basketball Tournament (TBT) regional at the Charleston Coliseum from July 18-22, announced Thursday the roster additions of former Mountaineers Toby Okani and Tre Mitchell.

Okani and Mitchell join a Best Virginia roster that already includes former Mountaineers John Flowers, Kedrian Johnson, Wesley Harris, Jermaine Haley Jr., and Eduardo Andre.

Best Virginia’s final roster will be announced next week.

Okani joined the West Virginia men’s basketball program for the 2024-25 season as a graduate transfer, following stints at Duquesne and Illinois-Chicago.

He started all 32 games for the Mountaineers in his final year of eligibility, averaging 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Mitchell played one season at West Virginia (2022-23), where he averaged 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds while helping lead the Mountaineers to the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to his time in Morgantown, he spent two seasons at UMass and one at Texas before finishing his college career at Kentucky.

Since graduating, Mitchell has gone on to play professionally for Lowen Braunschweig in Germany.

Best Virginia, the third seed in the West Virginia Regional, will face DuBois Dream in the first round at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 18.

Should it advance to the second round, Best Virginia would face the winner of Herd That (Marshall Alumni) and Sikh Warriors on July 20 at 5 p.m. on FS1.

The West Virginia Regional championship game is Tuesday, July 22 at 7 p.m.

The winner of the West Virginia Regional will advance to TBT’s quarterfinals on July 29. The semifinals will be held on July 31, and TBT’s $1 million championship will be played on Aug. 3.
