High School Roundup: Late Goals Lead Park Girls Past Marietta, 2-1

WHEELING — Julia Dunaway scored on a breakaway with about 17 minutes remaining and then assisted on the go-ahead goal two minutes later as the homestanding Lady Patriots topped Marietta High School, 2-1, in a hard-fought battle at Wheeling Island Stadium.
Marietta controlled much of the play for the first 40 minutes, but Park came out renewed in the second half. Despite giving up a goal to Marietta’s Annalise Spencer with about 25 minutes remaining, Park kept pressing and it paid off.
Park travels Saturday to Brooke to face the Bruins.
Wheeling Central Controls Game In Win vs. Brooke
WHEELING — The Maroon Knights defeated the Bruins 8-0 at home on Tuesday.
Rylee Wright led Central with three goals, while Elah Konkle scored two and Seneca Heller, Elizabeth Steele and Gianna Konkle each had one.
Konkle had three assists, and Heller two. Bella Fitzsimmons finished with five saves in-goal.

John Marshall Improves To 2-0 Over Seminoles
WOODSFIELD — Chase Fromhart and Trent Burton each netted two goals as John Marshall improved to 2-0 with a victory against Monroe Central.
Cooper Berlin and Apollo Miller also scored for the Monarchs.
Berlin and Zaiden Becker added assists. Tripp Bonds made nine saves.
Luke Barnhart scored on a penalty kick for the Seminoles (0-1).
Maroon Knights Escape With Road Victory
PARKERSBURG — Wheeling Central defeated Parkersburg South 1-0 on Tuesday in a defensive battle.
Luke Magruder scored the game’s only goal, assisted by Mason Smith. Tino Sperlazza had seven saves to preserve the clean sheet for the Knights.
