BRIDGEPORT – One of the newer educators at Bridgeport High has earned recognition at the state level for leading the softball team to victory as coach, and more recently she received a letter of commendation from Auditor of State Keith Faber.

Hannah Boyer joined the Bulldog team last school year teaching government, world history and financial literacy. After a triumphant softball season, she received statewide recognition as the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference’s Coach of the Year.

Boyer was selected by her fellow coaches from 58 school districts. They looked at factors such as how well the season went and how the team has improved.

The letter from Faber congratulated Boyer.

“It is my honor to recognize your outstanding accomplishments. Our state is pleased to celebrate the time and effort you have devoted to gaining this achievement,” the letter reads. “Today you join a distinguished group of individuals who have achieved the highest level of competition and discipline, and your dedication to mentoring and growing young athletes exemplifies the best of what makes Ohio great.”

Boyer, who teaches government, world history and financial literacy, had been an assistant coach for two years before stepping into the coach’s spot. Under her management, the Bulldogs softball team finished their season 15-8, then reached the OVAC semifinals and championship for the first time.

Boyer has commended her team for buying into the program, saying they trained hard and earned some satisfying victories over longtime rival teams.

From her first day as coach Boyer saw the potential in her players and was dedicated to helping them bring their strengths to the forefront and get the wins on the field she knew they could achieve.

She also praised her dedicated coaching staff and said she had the support of the school and community all through the season, with the Blue and the Black cheering her players to triumph every step of the way.

Boyer has been a welcome addition to the Bulldogs family. She is working with some promising talent this school year and looks forward to them taking the field this season.

Starting at $2.99/week.
